Favorite Songs

That is a tough question. I have several I would rank as my favorite, I'll have to get back to you on this.

Gloomy Sunday, the Hungarian suicide song. --Particularly the recording by Paul Robeson.

For that matter, Paul Robeson was an excellent bass singer who performed a lot of folk and gospel music.

What, Andrew? No Bare Naked Ladies, If I had a Million Dollars?

That's quite a list. I can't do that. I'll have a favourite for a time, and then work at it, and when I've gotten all I can from it, I lay it aside and go after another one. Right now I'm working on Sweet Hour of Prayer and Blowin' in the Wind, my own guitar arrangements. But one I always like to do is Take Me Home, Country Roads, by John Denver.

On the piano, its altogether different. My favourite then is Sweeter As the Years Go By.

When I work out I listen to heavy metal (Metallica, Motley Crue, AC/DC etc...)

Usually I listen to Rich Mullins or Steven Curtis Chapman. I find both of them to be uplifting.

Believe it or not... when I study I usually listen to Gregorian Chant. Good stuff!

Ride Captain Ride
Blues Image
:sing:
Seventy-three men sailed up
From the San Francisco Bay,
Rolled off of their ship
And here's what they had to say.
"We're callin' everyone to ride along
To another shore,
We can laugh our lives away
and be free once more."

But no one heard them callin',
No one came at all,
'Cause they were too busy watchin'
Those old raindrops fall.
As a storm was blowin'
Out on the peaceful sea,
Seventy-three men sailed off
To history.

Ride, captain ride
Upon your mystery ship,
Be amazed at the friends
You have here on your trip.
Ride captain ride
Upon your mystery ship,
On your way to a world
That others might have missed.

That tune is killer! I have a picure of me and Bruce Dickinson

I can't list a bunch of songs, that would take way too long.

Metal is definately my favorite. I like the older thrash stuff like Overkill, Flotsam & Jetsam, Testament, Exodus, Nuclear Assault, Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica (not newer stuff), Slayer.

I appreciate alot of different styles of music but my favorite songs are metal.

Scot,

My band played with Overkill and Nuclear Assault a couple of years ago at the New Jersey Metal Fest. Believe it or not, some of these bands are playing out again. Thats cool you got to meet Bruce. I've met and hung out with a lot of musicians including Dio - but I still havent crossed paths with Bruce yet. I hear he's a pretty down to earth guy.

Mike

Mike,

I plan on going to see Overkill next Wednesday. I've seen them on every tour since 1990. They usually come around two times each tour. I think I've seen them between 15 & 20 times. There's about four pictures or so of me and them on their recent DVD.

I met Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith when Bruce was on his last solo tour before he and Adrian returned to Maiden. I've met a ton of other musicians also. Glenn Danzig, the Flotsam & Jetsam guys, Slayer, Paul Bostaph (when he was in Forbidden), Sacred Reich, Napalm Death, Nevermore (did shots with Warrel dane long ago), Life Of Agony, Sepultura, Charlie Benante of Anthrax, Fear Factory, Dan Lilker of Nuclear Assault, Souls At Zero, lots more. I have a big metal photo album from back in the day.

I used to play also but haven't been in a band since 1997. I miss playing but don't really miss the enviroment. I still go to shows every once in awhile but not like I used to.

thanx for the welcome...HOW DID I FORGET A DYLAN SONG???? How about "you're a big girl now" from blood on the tracks...grace and peace to you as well my friend!!!!

I haven't heard that one yet. Right now my favorite Dylan song is probably "Tangled Up in Blue." Some other favorites are "Every Grain of Sand," "Times They Are A-Changin'" and "Blowin' in the Wind."

I usually don't add my two cents in, but I thought it was kinda sad that the Grateful Dead were unrepresented. :D

So:

Grateful Dead:
Lady with a Fan
Fire on the Mountain
China Cat Sunflower
Morning Dew
Brown Eyed Woman
... ad infinitum
Bob Maley:
Is This Love?
One Love
Iron Lion Zion
Pearl Jam:
Hail Hail
Yellow Ledbetter
Red Hot Chilli Peppers:
Under the Bridge
Soul to Squeeze
Give it Away
Phish:
Billy Breathes
Reba
Waste
Iona:
Chi Rho
Today
Beyond these shores

Has anyone else ever heard Iona? They're like... contemporary Celtic Christian... not Reformed lyrics, but not... evangi-fluff, either. The studio stuff is really ambient, but the live stuff borders on jam-band at times. I heartily enjoy them.

i have a pal named pete who followed the dead for years, sold good weed out in colorado and ate enough shrooms to kill an elephant...God saved him about 2 1/2 years ago and he will be leaving for short term mission work in Sudan this summer.....Praise God for saving folks like us !!!!!
