I was reflecting on the issue of regeneration and faith and how they are inseparable. In relation to this, is it better to see the gospel as a command rather than an offer? A gracious command obviously above a well meant offer. To me that seems more biblical and reformed - that we must believe in Christ to see the Kingdom of God
rather than we need to believe in Christ to do so. I believe it’s expressed much more definitively in Scriptures as an imperative command rather than a compelling offer. Maybe this is semantics, but language is obviously important.
 
Yes, I would say it has always been a command. This verse comes to mind.

Acts 17:30: The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent

The "offer" language is what you hear in synergistic churches for the most part.
