'Exercise Authority' and root word connection

I'm doing a word study and I'm no Greek scholar (only studied for a year). The topic is women's role in the church and I was looking into the word that is translated 'exercise authority'. Paul says in 1 Tim 2:12, "For I do not permit a woman to teach or to 'exercise authority' over a man..."

The word is only used once in the NT (authenteo) and has a root word of autos (he). Although the word 'authenteo' is only used once, it's root word (autos) is the word for 'he'. Could I make a reasonable argument that Paul is using a word uniquely linked to autos because the issue is related to women supplanting a man's role? The point being that Paul does not allow a woman to step into the role designated for men?

Sorry I just realized that I should have posted this to languages and not exegetical... Hmmm....
