This is what the evangelist says, And the Lord himself remained with the twelve, and these said to him, Look, Lord, they have left you. And he said to them, Do you also wish to go away? (Jn 6:67) He wanted to demonstrate that they needed him, not that he needed them; lest someone might deter Christ by saying he would become a Christian—as if Christ would be more blessed if you become a Christian! It does you good to become a Christian, but if you do not, it does no harm to Christ.
