Security is two fold: either in the ungodly, or in the godly. Security in the ungodly, or if you will call it Epicureal & giant-like contempt of God, is an amazedness or benummednes altogether neglecting the wrath and judgment of God. Security in the godly, is a cold & languishing fear of God, then especially appearing in them, when they be in prosperity.

Amandus Polanus, The substance of Christian religion soundly set forth in two books, by definitions and partitions, framed according to the rules of a natural method, by Amandus Polanus professor of divinity. The first book concerneth faith. The second concerneth good works. The principal points whereof are contained in a short table hereunto annexed, trans. Elijahu Wilcocks (London: John Oxenbridge, 1595), p. 182.
