Robert M M'Cheyne Plan (Banner of Truth print). It is a much loved plan and I find the structure helpful. The plan includes doing the New Testament and Psalms twice. I modify it to also do the book of Proverbs twice.

I'm doing this one too! Really looking forward to it. I downloaded the "Bible Reading Plan" app from the store. One just selects the plan they are working through and it presents you with a nice daily checklist and reminders. Another cool feature is the reminders can be set to "persist" or remain on your lock screen until the daily checklist is completed. Should be almost impossible to forget a reading, seeing as how we're reaching for these infernal devices hundreds of times a day. Lol

My only problem with the M'Cheyne plan is a personal preference--I don't like reading just a chapter at a time from multiple books on the same day. I've not found a plan yet that I'm totally happy with.

What can I say as a man of my times... I just like options. Table Talk has a reading plan but I don't follow it. I briefly tried M'Cheyne awhile back also. I've found "plans" disheartening. I either want to read more or some days I come up short due to work scheduling and so forth. Even though during the course of the week I may have read more than "the plan" whatever it is, plans can leave you demoralized. Rather I prefer to be reading in several places in the Scriptures. Usually three places in the OT and two in the NT. Some days involve reading ten chapters in the OT and none in the NT. Some days one chapter in each. Other days involve other mixes. This is on top of what we read in family worship and my daily TT reading. This latest approach has been a boon for me psychologically and spiritually. Overall I'm reading more Scripture this way.

I made one of these too.

It covers the Old Testament once.
The New Testament once, (Monday-Friday)
Psalms once (Sat./Sun.)
Proverbs twice (Sun.)

If anyone wants a copy, just send an email to [email protected]

Blessings!

What Bible reading plan are you planning to use next year? If applicable, why did you select that plan?
Started my own this Month, planning to read straight through all of the NT books. I am not focusing on a specific book, but plowing through all of them.
I am doing the smaller books in a single reading.

I usually read cover to cover without a hard-and-fast schedule (aiming for an average of 4 chapters a day) and had always been able to make sufficient progress that way before, but having grown lax the past couple years and with a second child on the way, I think I need something more regimented to keep me accountable. I am planning to try the M'Cheyne calendar this year. I am also putting together a more regimented plan for reading books outside of Scripture.

I became partial to using Youversion this past year as it had the ESV audio built in. I find listening to my daily reading is very helpful. I was using an Olive Tree reading plan this past year but would select the verses to be read in Youversion and then play them.

This year I'm going to go with their Bible Reading plan for 2017 that is sort of a like the M'Cheyne plan. I've been going through the Bible every year since 2003 and tried all the way through, chronological, and M'Cheyne a number of times. I'm going to try this one this year.

The ESV app on smartphones has a number of reading plans built in. I've found the same as you, however, I don't like reading multiple chapters from multiple books, and all the app's plans seem to be like that. Again, like yourself, I've still to find one that I'm fully happy with.

I'm going to go with the Discipleship Journal Book-at-a-Time plan and supplement it with reading the Psalms each month. It's the closest I can find to what I want.

i have made my own :)

Anyone can use it. I made it because i could not find one that i liked.
I wanted one that was chronological, because that kind of plan helps me understand what is happening a lot better than any other.
I wanted one that allowed me to read from the NT every day.
I wanted wisdom literature every day.

The first column is the OT
Second is NT
Third is Psalm or Proverb.

By the end of the year you will have read,

OT once
NT once
Gospels twice
Psalms twice
Proverbs twice
And the last 4 or 5 days in the middle column, are just some of my favorite chapters. So i just put those in there. i picked ...

John 10
Col 1
Rom 8
Phil 3
Rev 21

You can pick whatever. If any of you do my plan, i hope my laying it out benefits you, and does not hinder your time in the word.

Last night I completed my second year of the M'Cheyne 1 year plan. It felt good to have done it these two years past, though knowing the the Revered D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones said he used the M'Cheyne plan for 52 or 53 years, he could not recall which. As for me, better late than never.

The first year I used the KJV, last year the 1599 Geneva. This morning I began with the KJV again. I added D.A. Carson's 'For The Love Of God' to my daily/nightly reading in the middle of the year past. There are two volumes and vol 1 corresponds with the morning reading, volume 2 with the evening. I cannot speak highly enough for how much Dr Carson's exegesis, though brief in this format, has enhanced my understanding of Scripture that I might have glossed over, or misunderstood.

I personally found the two chapters morning, two evening program to be very beneficial. It jump started my day in a most positive way, and returning in the evening tended to set my mind on 'things above.' rather than the daily routine of this life. While reading one chapter of a book at a time seems superficial, for me it led me to read that particular chapter with more focus than reading multiple chapters.

Over the course of the two years I've used the plan I can truly see an improvement of my knowledge of the Bible, and what William Graham Scroggie called, 'The Unfolding Drama Of Redemption.' I highly recommend this plan for anyone looking at the options.

This was the topic (and will be for awhile) of study in our Sunday school class. They gave us handouts for choosing a few different ways of reading through the Bible. There's one called Discipleship Journal's using a 5x5x5 method that I might try. Another one my pastor made up, aligns the reading plan to correspond with subjects (nothing is chronological order). I might try to merge the two together. I'm actually trying to find something online that's more of a course-like, teaching tool where they give you a subject, ask questions, and give answers to the questions.......if anyone knows of such a thing let me know! :)

Excellent to hear that some of my brothers here are planning to use M'Cheyne's plan!

Praise God, I will be as well.

This year, I'm using the Old Testament readings from Table Talk magazine. The New Testament readings are from this: Daily Devotional: New Testament: Through the New Testament in a Year (Wheaton: Crossway, 2014). In this book, you get, daily, two readings from the New Testament, one each from each of two groups (Matthew - Acts) (Romans - Revelation). I think this will work well.
