The Bay Book of Psalms (1640) was in Los Angeles today for a one day viewing. This is the copy that is owned by Old South Church in Boston. Sotheby's will be auctioning it off on November 26 and it is estimated to bring in between $15-30 million. This is more than a Gutenberg Bible.
North America has a rich history of a cappella psalm singing and this book is part of that history. I was glad to be able to see it since there are only 11 copies still in existence and as more and more antiquarian books move into private collections, the opportunity to see these treasures is decreasing.
Here's a picture of the psalter with a copy of the Book of Psalms for Worship (2009): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?....935381.697640472&type=1&theater¬if_t=like
Here's a picture of 4/5 of my children with the psalter (the youngest was asleep in the stroller): https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?....233241.697640472&type=1&theater¬if_t=like
The book was also in Chicago, Seattle, and Dallas. Anyone here go visit it?
