For personal listening I like medieval music.
I was shocked the other day when I heard one of these songs (usually from Latin manuscripts redone by modern "early music" groups like the Waverly Consort). It was a great song about the angel's announcement to Mary of her pregnancy and then Jesus' birth. In the middle of it, the phrase "Ave Maria" occurs.
Should I trash the song? Is this phrase always odious and does it always mean ungodly veneration above a normal healthy respect for the mother of Christ?
