ATTENTION!!

An informational meeting to explore the feasibility of renewing the ministry of the National Reform Association will take place on Tuesday, July 26, from 3:30 - 4:30 at Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana, the Barnes Student Center, Jones Banquet Room A.

The National Reform Association was founded in 1863 in Xenia, Ohio with representatives from 11 different denominations to deal with two objectives:
(1) the eradication of slavery from the Constitution, and (2) the acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as the Supreme Governor and Ruler of the nation by amending the Preamble to state that truth.
The movement's ideas spread quickly, culminating in a meeting with President Lincoln in the White House in late 1864.
The work and influence of the NRA continued to the point where an actual floor vote in the House happened in 1876 to amend the Preamble. That measure was defeated, but was re-introduced in 1898 and was defeated by a narrow margin.

By 1920, the NRA had grown to 50,000 members nationally and continued to work not only on the amendment but on other measures to promote Christian government.
The official publication of the NRA, the Christian Statesman, first appeared on September 1, 1867, and continued monthly until 2009, making it the longest running Christian publication in American history.

The NRA organization has been dormant since that time, but with the political situation becoming more concerning by the month, there has not been a more compelling reason to revive the purpose and efforts of the National Reform Association. In fact, a 2013 poll by the Huffington Post and YouGov showed that 32% of the people favored or strongly favored a constitutional amendment to recognize Christianity as the official religion of the United States.

We face an historic time amidst all the turmoil and confusion of our day to harness a movement to glorify our Lord Jesus nationally and to point to Him as our only hope.
Below are two links I think you would find interesting about the NRA's cause.
We hope to see you at the meeting!

The PCA Historical Center has a small collection of the National Reform Association's publication, The Christian Statesman.
Our collection consists of two bound volumes (Vol. 6-8) covering the years 1872-1873 and 1873-1875, plus perhaps fifty scattered issues from 1893-1948.

We would welcome the donation of other issues, if available, and would also be glad to work with those needing access to these materials.

RPTS in Pittsburgh and Geneva College appear to have some of the best collections of The Christian Statesman, as one might expect, though quite a few libraries around the country indicate holdings of this title.
