Joshua 7:12

KJV 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

Geneva 12 Therefore ye children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies, but haue turned their backes before their enemies, because they be execrable: neither will I bee with you any more, except ye destroy the excommunicate from among you.

These are my thoughts.

We have to remove certain people from our lives to keep following the Lord.

Is it of any significance that the LORD says "there is an accursed thing" and not "an accursed man"? The curse in Deuteronomy was on taking the spoil of the nation's whom God would destroy (and in connection with that the man who sinned by taking the accursed thing was to die, but the curse was on the spoil of the nations). In applying this to ourselves, might it be that we are to see that we put away accursed things, and particularly anything we make an idol of, more than people?

Not disputing that the ungodly will have a detrimental impact on our spiritual life and we should avoid bad company, particularly if we are apt to be led astray by it.

Joshua 7:13

KJV 13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.

Geneva 13 Vp therefore, sanctifie the people, and say, Sanctifie your selues against to morowe: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an execrable thing among you, O Israel, therefore ye cannot stand against your enemies, vntill ye haue put the execrable thing from among you.

These are my thoughts.

We need to come to Christ was we can be made pure.

Joshua 7:14
KJV 14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.
Geneva 14 In the morning therefore ye shall come according to your tribes, and the tribe which the Lord taketh, shall come according to the families: and the familie which the Lord shall take, shall come by the housholds: and the houshold which the Lord shall take, shall come man by man.

These are my thoughts.
God sees us in our groups but sees us as individuals as well. God was going to call out this man. Those without Jesus will be called out because of the sin they have.

My understanding is that Israel sinned and broke the covenant, unless they repent from their treachery, God will allow the Amorites victory. The beginning of the chapter explains it.

I would not mind a good discussion about separation if this is where you are going with presenting these verses.

Joshua 7:15 King James Version (KJV)
15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.

Sin has results the worse is facing the fire of hell but through grace we can find forgiveness through Jesus.

Joshua rose up early to do it, often times we want to delay or put off the hard things to do but Joshua took care of it first thing in the morning, let us have this same attitude about doing what God wants of us.

Just to add to the conversation:
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
(Romans 16:17-18)

These people cause disunity in the church and subsequently hinder our fellowship.

Joshua 7:17
KJV 17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
Geneva 17 And he brought the families of Iudah, and tooke the familie of the Zarhites, and he brought the familie of the Zarhites, man by man, and Zabdi was taken.

These are my thoughts.
We all belong to a family but we as Christians belong most important to the family of God.

Joshua 7:18

KJV 18 And he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.

Geneva 18 And he brought his houshold, man by man, and Achan ye sonne of Carmi, the sonne of Zabdi, the sonne of Zerah of the tribe of Iudah was take.

These are my thoughts.

Sin cant hide behind whose family we are apart of, we need a personal walk with the Lord.
