In case we don't make the playoffs, then my vote will switch to the Montreal Canadiens.

Um, Toronto Maple Leafs, of course. Just like every other year. (Duh.)

NB: Voting for Montreal leaves you open to board discipline.

My dear misguided brother: I know that on the PB we have a tendency to throw around words like 'heretic' and such but it's for reasons like your statement above that we're so comfortable in doing so. Tut tut.

The Pens are on a roll and that is while they are WITHOUT their captain Sidney Crosby!

The 7-1 bludgeoning of the Devils Saturday night was quite revealing as to the offensive force of this team... oh and again this was WITHOUT their captain Sidney Crosby!

Malkin
Malone
Hossa
Fleury
Staal
Conklin
Gonchar
Crosby
Roberts
Letang
Talbot

These guys are unstoppable

:)

The Tampa Bay Lightning.

Don't pay any attention to their horrible record, they can still pull it out. Right? Right? :p

Go Bolts! (maybe next year)

A 100 years ago who would have ever thought a hockey team could even exist in Florida, much less win the cup? :)

Unless people are treating this as a "Who is your favorite team poll" I don't see how too many "other" votes can be submitted. I believe the OP was referring to this year's cup. The Bolts don't have a chance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detroit as usually is red hot out of the gate and then cools off in time for the playoffs.

Ottawa is following suit and Montreal should have only gotten weaker after the trade deadline, but are surprisingly remaining a threat.

The laughable southeast division has remarkably improved where the Canes are looking like contenders and Washington just might make the playoffs.

Philly is a see saw but overall choking as is the norm in that city.

Rangers? They are beginning to look dangerous again.

Boston - eh...

New Jersey is always a threat especially with Superman in goal (Marty Brodeur).

San Jose and Dallas are the primary threat in the West.

If the Pens can play as well with Crosby as they have without and improve their road performance they will be a legitimate threat. They have the talent to carry them and solid goal tending. Their defense tends to crumble without notice, but if they can score 3-5 goals every game as they have been, then they can't loose.

It should be interesting!

Who will win the Stanley Cup?

The Detroit Red Wings.

Who do I want to win the Stanley Cup?

The Vancouver Canucks. But it is unlikely.

 I know. I'm sorry, I got too excited and lost my head. I don't get to yell "Go Bolts" too much this year, I had a seriously delusional moment.:um:

I'm pulling for the Penguins.

The Penguins will be an offensive power house for another year or so and then disband because of the salary cap.

I don't think they will perform well in the playoffs; too many young ones and not enough veterans.

This year was not their year, but their rebuilding plan seems pretty smart. Smith is great goaltender and they have some superstars in their midst with Lecavalier and St. Louis. They should be contenders again pretty soon.

That line of reasoning may have worked last year, but this year they have more mature talent and now some playoff experience. If young Fleury shows signs of buckling under the pressure they have the veteran Ty Conklin who is been outstanding this year.

I just worry about Malkin's seemingly backstage performance when Crosby is around. It appears the Pens play better as a team when Sid is out of the line up. Jeff Taffe even said so after one of their recent games with Crosby in the lineup. When Crosby is in the lineup they tend to rely on him too much to win the games instead of everyone playing to their full potential.

If the Pens get knocked out, I have been pulling for a Canadian team to win the cup. Canada has done too much to help the sport of Hockey to be out dueled in the playoffs year after year. I could not believe Anaheim dominated Ottawa last year - did not see that coming.

Well I still think they need a few more years of maturing in order to take on veteran teams like Ottawa and Detroit. But they could prove me wrong!

And of course I am quite biased in my reasoning. :)

As a Pens fan I hope they get home ice advantage and they do not face the Senators or the Flyers in the Playoffs. The Senators scare me and the Flyers always seem to have our number come playoff time.

Calgary Flames or any Canadian team other than Edmonton (not that they will likely make the playoffs).

Anybody But Calgary... or so my Edmonton friends tell me. But I'm a transplant so what do I know?

If the Flames go deep into the playoffs, there will be many Edmontonians begrudgingly jumping on the Calgary bandwagon the same way many of them did in 2004.

When is Edmonton going to take that silly "City of Champions" sign down?

So will I but I always root for all the Canadian teams. I was cheering when Calgary took down Minnesota the other night.

I don't know. I am from Leduc. We don't like Edmonton.

Never mind that sign. That was earned, and not in the first place by the Edmonton Oilers with Wayne the Wimp (aka Wayne the whiner) together with the rest of the bunch of overpaid kids. It is actually the Eskimos (as in football), who earned that sign.

(Used to go to Oiler games regularly before the first strike, before they started getting the obscene salaries)

Us in Sherwood Park don't like Edmonton much either, although that is more of a municipal government issue...

Especially when the pulled that stunt opposing the location of the hospital finally promised us, as the third or fourth largest municipality in Alberta, still without our own hospital, the closest being half an hour away....

Pens Beat Devils 2-0!!!!!

Yes this was big. That Islander game though… that worried me. The Pens can look so good and then they all of a sudden crumble against a bad team with a backup goalie. Even last night – if it wasn’t for Fleury being phenomenal, they could have very well lost. I mean they only scored one goal really (just like the night before); Hossa’s empty netter was insurance. So overall they are in a good place to be right now, but they worry me nonetheless. Just as long as they find a way to win and do so come playoff time.

I will take the Bruins in the playoffs any day. As I already said the Senators and the Flyers scare me. Although we have had our share of problems with Boston this year too; it should be fun.
