Here is a link to a nice PDF copy of George Buchanan's The Rights of the Crown in Scotland. It is basically the same as the version in the back of the Sprinkle edition of Lex, Rex but is somewhat easier to read. I am just finished reading it in my copy of Lex, Rex and it is a timely treatise for the days in which we are living.

So this work gets annexed to Lex Rex... what is the significant contribution of this work?

It is written at a more popular level than Lex, Rex, so it is better to start with it than with Samuel Rutherford's work. Also, it helps you to see the broader tradition of justifying resistance to tyranny in which Rutherford was writing.
