I found this short video by a man who calls churches who practice EP cult churches. He takes the verses about instruments in the Old Testament as totally prescriptive for today, and that any interpretation of Colossians 3 and Ephesians 5 that says Paul was using the words Psalms, hymns, and songs to refer to the 150 Psalms is ludicrous. A silly video with silly arguments. I thought I would share it because I just stumbled upon it trying to find videos of Psalm-chanting. May the Lord bless you this work week.

"Prescriptive"? Man, who's got that kind of talent in their churches these days?

Make sure to send over the guy who can play the sackbut when you're done with him. :D

Did I use an incorrect word? Also the man in the video abandoned Protestantism for Roman Catholicism. In a video explaining why he's a Roman it's obvious he never understood any Protestant belief. He thinks sola scriptura means everyone should just have their own interpretation of Scripture. But the Bible tells us we need help understanding Scripture, therefore Sola Scriptura is false. Also, the Apostles say to follow their tradition. It's pretty sad. I don't think he is stupid, just searching for answers. He seemed to have never gotten anything explained to him.

No, not an incorrect word. I just pushed it to its logical extreme. If the man says instruments are prescriptive, better bone up on your ancient instrumentation. The Temple set a pretty high bar.

As for the rest, yeah, that's sad. Not surprising, though. Rome seems to have a way of snapping up the rudderless.

I figured when you mentioned the good old sackbut. Yes he took as prescriptive as harps and lyres means anything we want.

His Australian accent comes through clearly :) He has another video entitled Calvinism Debunked. He says at the start of this video he recently converted to Catholicism. Don't take him too seriously.

I was disappointed to read Samuel Miller make an anti-EP argument in his Thoughts on Public Prayer. Granted, Professor Miller was a lot more credible than this individual. I may post the relevant extract later if I remember.

He was PCUSA (like ground floor, born in I think 1764) so you'd see this without exception in PCUSA men from the founding in 1788. The founding was preceded by decades of divisiveness over the topic when some began introducing Watts' imitations (this shows just how much there was no solid EP foundation (as to the why) in many (majority?) of Presbyterian churches, that Watts was an acceptable translation to replace an actual translation with. I recall being surprised by Alexander McLeod in something I read by him, that he seemed to have had no foundational EP argumentation for the basis of the practice about the time he came to the states.

This poor guy is not a very deep thinker on this subject. Why would you assume that what we mean by hymns today is what Paul meant by hymns? If that isn't an anachronistic argument then I don't know what is.

I started listening to his Mariology debate with an Alabaman protestant but had to stop before my brain ceased functioning altogether.

Like I said I listened to why he rejected Protestantism and it was obvious he never understood what he believed. Hearing him tell me Sola Scriptura means everyone just believes whatever they want also hurt my brain cells I think.

Stephen, glad to see the cat back in your profile. Good work :D
