I just inherited a pair of cowboy boots. They have rubber soles/heels. The heel on one pair is beginning to peel away. Should I use gorilla glue or take it to a boot repair shop?

Depends on your budget. I would personally get a tube of liquid nails. Have some old rags handy for clean up.

P.S. I fixed an old pair of motorcycle boots with epoxy. The soles lasted longer than the top of the boots.:detective:

Thanks. I looked around town and there is a reliable guy who can fix it for under $20.

In any case...antifungal spray!!!

It floods in my part of La. on a semi-regular basis. This spring I was sandbagging on the Ouachita River just north of Monroe. I had some steel-toed Justin Boots and I was chest deep in river water (probably not the smartest idea, what with the cottonmouths and all). When I was done the soul had entirely peeled off of my boot! I actually hate to think what kind of water I was wading in for several hours.

Cottonmouths...I had to google it but they’re what we called Water Moccasins up hear.

Glad you could find a place to fix your boots. If they were passed down to you, they must be some boots.

Cottonmouths have a rep for being aggressive, but in my experience, they just stand their ground which I completely respect. Eastern diamondbacks are the only snake I truly loath -- ugly, smell bad, dangerous, and mean as a snake.

I’ve only had snake once and it was rattlesnake some thirty years ago. So tasty may be one redeeming quality.

OK, Jacob. At the risk of sending this thread into solar orbit, tell me that if your boot has a soul, at least it is not immortal, right?

Cotton mouths that I have experience with have been both ways. I've seen them on logs just sit there when you passed and I've seen them cross a pond to come towards me fishing on the other side.

Copperheads, ive had come after us too while backpacking, and they are almost always in pairs. Rattlesnakes have been the least aggressive . They rattle and either leave or I do.

Rattlers are indeed defensive. Hence the rattle. They want you to go away. I’ve never been chased by one. I would be freaked out if water moccasins came after me. The father of a girl I dated told a story of them dropping out of a tree into his boat. I wouldn’t need to be poisoned if that happened to me. I’d vapor-lock and fall overboard.

Don't shoot at them with the shotgun if they are in the boat.
