Ha ha! It was too much temptation not to share this one.

I wish I could be active again at PB; I’ve certainly missed the interaction! Just too much going on (our church plant + doctoral study).

But I hope someone here wins the prize!

I propose he cannot leave until he gives a thorough update on the doctoral studies. It's only fair.

Ha ha! It’s good to interact here again; there’s been a lot happening since last posting on PB. My wife had another surgery right about the time we began both the church and the doc (she’s recovered well, for which we praise God). We’re now 4 months into planting Reformation Baptist Church of Dalton, which is going better than I could’ve hoped. God has been so gracious in helping us in this work.

Th.D study is going well. Drs. Brian Cosby and James LaBelle (PCA and OPC pastors, respectively) are my supervisors. Cosby, one of the leading Flavel scholars (my thesis will focus on Flavel’s pastoral theology, D.V.), is just up the road in Chattanooga; and LaBelle (in Cape Cod) has written several books with Joel Beeke. Both men also had roles in the recent Puritan documentary, and have been very helpful in getting started well.

The doc will take me ~7 years, most likely. But I’m studying part-time, and am not in a hurry with it. I primarily wish to sharpen myself as an elder and grow as a Christian by it; and it’s been terrific thus far.

I’m also doing some writing on the side (currently working on a short book dealing with corporate confession of sin in worship); so if anyone has any recommended resources on that subject, I’d be grateful!

Anyhow, I hope that y’all are well. I’ll try to check back again soon for any replies.

Grace to you.

How are you liking the assignments? I have been looking at that particular program for years but dont quite have the time to commit. 7 years seems fast to me given all the work

Reagan, it brings a happy tear to my eye to know you are still laboring in the fields.

I was wondering about you just yesterday. Thanks for checking in.

7 years may be very fast; I’m really not sure...just an estimate at present. Thus far, I’m loving the program, and am thankful for both its existence and the interaction from my supervisors. I’m just chipping away a little at a time and it’ll be finished whenever it’s finished.

Alongside the Th.D, Brian Cosby has asked me to serve as an assistant editor on BOT’s new critical edition of Flavel’s Works, so I’m eager to get started on that as well. It’ll be very part-time, but I don’t care. It’ll be worth it to work with him and to be able to help others learn more of Christ from Flavel as I have. James La Belle has been a joy to get to know, and I’m sure we’ll come up with some projects as well. He’s a terrific guy and has been a great encouragement to me.

Thanks for your kind words, brother. What a blessing.

Grace to you.
