J.L. Allen

Puritan Board Sophomore
I have family in Decatur, Alabama that we are visiting. *We’re going to be on the east side of Smith Lake and are looking for a solid NAPARC church to attend in the morning. In light of yesterday’s news with our family, I really want to be with my local body back in Illinois. However, we just need to be with other brothers and sisters and sit under the Word preached.

Any recommendations?

* We didn’t bring any formal clothing. Hopefully people won’t mind us showing up casually dressed.

Jonathan, are you looking to attend church on the way back to Illinois or are you in Arley for a while longer?

Jonathan, you're a little over an hour away from Hoover, AL but if you felt up to the drive, we'd love to have you with us at Birmingham Reformed Presbyterian (RPCNA). Our morning Sabbath school starts at 10:45, we have lunch afterwards, then our worship service is at 1:15. Sam Ketcham from the Fresno, CA RP church will be preaching. There may be a good church closer to y'all, perhaps @Edward can sniff one out. If you are inclined to make the drive, please let me know. You are so welcome to any or all of our times for the day.

We will be near Arley, Ala.

Looks like the options are First Presbyterian in Jasper (closer but out of date web site) http://fpcjasper.com/?page_id=12 or Christ Covenant in Cullman (a bit further, but more up to date on the website.) http://christcovenantcullman.org/times-directions/ Both PCA. For a one-off visit, I wouldn't be that concerned about attire or details.

If you are up for a Sunday morning drive, there is Redeemer OPC in Birmingham. (Looks like 75 minutes to an hour and a half from Arley).

Redeemer OPC is no longer; they closed their doors a few years ago. But in God’s providence we are now here in Birmingham, as mentioned! (Birmingham Reformed Presbyterian- https://www.birmingham-reformed.org/

Jeri,

We would love to come down to Birmingham and worship with y’all. Unfortunately it’s further than we are wishing to go on this trip.

I think we’ve decided to go the PCA church in Jasper. I hope they don’t mind me wearing shorts (not the standard issue OPC jean shorts or jorts). ;)

Thank you for all the help, folks!

May the Lord comfort your family tomorrow as you fellowship with all the saints. “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.”

Go to this link and scroll down to the bottom to get a map of all the NAPARC churches worldwide: https://kotp.org/heartland-presbytery/

Looks like there are a number of PCA churches in the region.

Here is a direct link to what I think is the same map embedded on that page: https://goo.gl/fyJUXU
We publish the link (along with the one to the general NAPARC site) in our bulletin every summer during "vacation season" along with a note from the consistory that exhorts members to make sure that if they have to be away on a Sunday for vacation that "attendance at a confessional Reformed church is part of that plan".

Hey folks,

Thank you for the help. First Presbyterian in Jasper (PCA) was wonderful and welcoming. It was certainly different than our experience at an OPC location. The patriotic elements of the service in celebration of Independence Day was a little uncomfortable, but they were honest and kind people. The message (which wasn’t patriotic necessarily) was fantastic. My wife fell in love with Jasper from the bit we saw.
