Listen to part one today; excellent.
10 minute mark. On why Calvin put Worship first ahead of Salvation in that famous quote (below). 2nd "Salvation is a means to an and the end is worship".
44 minute mark(thereabouts). Modern contemporary performance worship is going back to medieval RC worship
Conclusion,
New Testament worship is boring without the Holy Spirit.
We worship the way we do because we have a high view of the Holy Spirit.
Biblical worship is bare because of this. Strip back the worship of God to everything positively prescribed in Scripture in utter dependence on the Holy Spirit, because biblical worship is boring without the Holy Spirit working in us.
Biblical worship is 1. Worship sought by God. 2. Spiritual worshp utterly dependent on the work of the Holy Spirit. 3. Simple worship, only what is prescribed in Scripture.
Sermons on the Regulative Principle of worship (preacher, Gavin Beers). Part 1.
Calvin: "If it be inquired, then, by what things chiefly; the Christian religion has a standing existence amongst us, and maintains its truth, it will be found that the following two not only occupy the principal place, but comprehend under them all the other parts, and consequently the whole substance of Christianity, viz., a knowledge, first, of the mode in which God is duly worshipped; and, secondly, of the source from which salvation is to be obtained." “I know how difficult it is to persuade the world that God disapproves of all modes of worship not expressly sanctioned by his word.” John Calvin on the Necessity of Reforming the Church.

Actually; no. I cut and pasted this from a Facebook post I made where he is a friend and didn't do a good job editing.
