Needs some post production work to clean up the gasps when they grab some air. They are particularly distracting at the beginning.

Nice voices.

Haha Edward, gasps are part of it. They probably got mixed as carefully as everything else.

No, they aren't. I went back and listened to the Cyndi Lauper version last night after listening to this one, and it didn't sound like she'd run a marathon before entering the studio. Perhaps nervousness by inexperienced or untrained singers.

There were a number of things that stood out to me, but one in particular about this version in contrast to the original: the lack of keeping the listeners interest. The 1/8 note rythym of the acoustic guitar was never "broken up" by anything interesting. The original was chock full of guitar double stops, slides, chorus/delay effects, cool and appropriate drum beat changes, bass fills.....all things to make a song interesting and demonstrate mature song-writing/execution. The Eagles live Hell Freezes Over DVD demonstrates the very best execution of this of which I'm aware......

I agree with Edward....they arent vocally mature enough to have the vocal pull of the interest.......Small Potatoes did this well....

By part of it I mean that a lot of singers do it on purpose nowadays. Cyndi Lauper didn’t because breathiness wasn’t popular then. Trust me I know these things.

I guess I'm just not hip enough to appreciate bad singing, then. It's a bit of a shame - the voices are good, but they need some decent training. Proper breathing is an important part of singing. Gasping for air doesn't enhance a performance.
