Just as a side not to this I have often wondered what Hallelujah and Hosanna mean. I understand both words are used to praise God, but in using these words ,in song or speech, just seem foreign to this old man who only speaks English. I almost feel like I am speaking in tongues when I utter them.

Yes I phrased my post poorly. I guess what I am saying is that I personally have to translate Hallelujah and Hosanna each and every time in my mind, which I personally do not like to do. I have a vulgar mind I guess.

That's an interesting observation, and I suspect many believers experience the same thing. I do with Hosanna. It doesn't immediately register as being a salvation statement; I have to translate it in my head. The only immediate connection I make is to flannelgraph images of people waving palm branches.

I suppose one's childhood plays a role in such connections. With hallelujah, I grew up being taught to hear the divine name in that word, and to view its flippant use as a particularly serious violation of the third commandment. So in my case, it holds strong meaning right off the bat.
