New Goodies

Grabbed these goodies at the for-sale Bookroom of Jarvis Street Baptist Church on Sunday (went a little nuts):

Minor Prophets, Vol. 2: Joel, Amos & Obadiah by John Calvin (Banner of Truth, Geneva Series)

Ecclesiastes by Charles Bridges (Banner of Truth, Geneva Series)

A Faith to Confess: The Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689, Rewritten in Modern English (Carey Publications)

The Sovereignty of God by A.W. Pink (Banner)

Knowing Scripture by R.C. Sproul (IVP)

The Mystery of Providence by John Flavel (Banner, Puritan Paperback)

The Way of Life by Charles Hodge (Baker)

The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit: Belief, Baptism, Blessing by C.H. Spurgeon (Pilgrim Publications, booklet)

The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit: The Doctrines of Grace by C.H. Spurgeon (Pilgrim Publications, booklet)

Now if I can pull myself away from them in favor of studying for my exams...

Have fun. Sounds like they have a good inventory.

Indeed they do. I was floored when I walked into the Bookroom, having decided to do for the first time just last week after worship, the pickings were so good. A very classic, self-consciously Reformed selection.

Too bad you picked up this edition; this is Pink's book heavily edited and re-written by Iain H. Murray. Murray disagreed with the way Pink expressed himself on some topics, and disagreed with Pink's actual positions on other topics. So, he, basically, re-wrote Pink's book to suit himself.

The Baker Books edition (still in print) is Pink's original, actual book.

I have spent many a happy time in the Jarvis Street bookroom in years past. Great bookstore. Unhappily about the only Reformed Bookstore left in Toronto, now that Reformation Book Service on Avenue Road has closed with the retirement of its owner the unforgettable Bob Shaker------a legend in the small toronto Reformed community.
