I have been enjoying reading RRC, it has been challenging to me and has made me stretch a bit. I also have been interested in reading Marsden on Edwards. Happy reading.

Aw...I thought you were going to say a firearm. Books are the next best thing though. Happy reading. Marsden's bio is great. Clark's RRC is fantastic.

I was going to purchase Scott Clark's book, but then I remembered that I, qua Baptist, do not hold to any Reformed confession, belong to a false church, and am probably unregenerate.

I'll stick to reading those heretics Gill and Spurgeon.

Are you saying the book speaks in the manner you are speaking?

I'm getting the feeling that Baptists have been stung by the recent thread on "not being a true church." That's from this thread and others.

I am in the position of being an out-of-favor Presby pastoring a Baptist congregation. Believe me, friends, this is a real church.

Truth be told, I had tried to be a True Christian™ and seek membership with one of the many Presbyterian churches in my city when I first embraced Reformed theology, but as it turned out virtually all of them had become synagogues of Satan (as ye old 'Standards put it) from before I was born or are well on their way to said status.

But hey, at least their babies get sprinkled.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

J/K

I thoroughly enjoyed RRC. I do not, of course, agree with any "not a true church" sentiments. But the book does stress the importance of confessionalism and how easy it is lost, which I think fits well with the previous post and how those churches in fact became such synagogues of Satan.

FWIW, there are such things as confessional (and Reformed) Baptist churches. For instance, there is one near us (and at least 3 PBers are members) and it holds to the London Baptist Confession. So there.

Beth:

There was a separate thread reviewing the book, if you're interested.
