| Do Hard Things
To start off, I didn't actually go out and buy the book; it was loaned to me by a friend. It's written by Alex and Brett Harris, who are siblings of Joshua Harris, who wrote I Kissed Dating Goodbye.
The basic premise of Do Hard Things is that the world has deluded teens into wasting some of the best years of their lives by slapping them with the label "adolescent," (i.e. teens are merely children with adult bodies, and therefore aren't capable of being responsible). Alex and Brett Harris issue a call to teens to start a "rebelution" by rebelling against the low standards of culture and "doing hard things" that glorify God.
I really liked this book. It's well written and a quick read. It also clearly sounds a warning to Christians to not just sit back and waste their lives. Instead, we need to take advantage of every opportunity God has given us to glorify Him and draw attention to His Son.
The worldview of the Harris brothers seems to be similar to that of Kuyper (I admit my knowledge about Kuyper is limited), who believed that the Christian is responsible to transform culture for the sake of Christ by being salt and light. Overall, Do Hard Things is a fantastic book that knocks the socks off Christian lethargy.
