That does sound interesting. I've really appreciated the practical, but still very Biblical, perspectives on mood, depression and melancholy that have been touched on in other Puritan books I have read - like John Owen's The Mortification of Sin or Richard Sibbes' The Bruised Reed - but I've not read a book from that time that deals primarily with those subjects.
I would love to hear your thoughts when you've read it .

I read a suggestion somewhere that one first read The Bruised Reed and follow it with the above book by Timothy Rogers. I guess its time to read The Bruised Reed again as its been a long while.

One advantage to Mr. Rogers' book is that he has read Sibbes and Goodwin and other similar luminaries.

The title by Rogers is considered THE Puritan classic work on depression, both physical and spiritual. It's a great book, if I do say so myself.

Dr. Kistler, I gathered from the preface that Mr. Rogers actually wrote some other books on melancholy, but I was unable to locate them on Google books or anywhere else. Have you had the opportunity to peruse any of those?

I was hoping to get this book but I lost an eBay bid on it a while ago. So I would really appreciate a book report...on my desk tomorrow, that is.

Rogers wrote another book on sickness, but not on depression. It was called "Practical Discourses on Sickness and Recovery."
There was another one on handling affliction, but nothing else on depression. Rogers knew of what he spoke. He was out of the ministry for 8 years due to the depths of his depression.
