Hey, all. We speak an awful lot about the books we love. I have a question. How do we protect our investments? I'm not talking about the books we someday may get rid of, but of the ones we'd sooner part with a limb. Those anchors of our libraries. What are your best ideas for protecting and prolonging the life of those volumes?
Many I own have no dust jacket. OF course, shelf-wear is always an issue. So, what do you recommend?
For starters, I'll suggest Brodart.com. What/who do YOU suggest?

Never given it any thought. Maybe I should...
I know a colleague who, when he was a missionary in Indonesia, had each of his books wrapped tightly in a plastic bag. But that was a very oppressive environment for books.

This is an expensive option for all your books but I bought a leather cover for a hardback bible I have. It's beatiful, protects the bible and makes it look really cool. Custom Leather Book Covers |

I've had a couple books that I use often that I had to send off to be rebound. I think the service cost more than the book's original price but they were hard to find books and they did a such a good job with the binding that they should last a long time.

I'll take really good care of them, I promise.
Am I a nice guy, or what?

"It is part of the calling of the ekklesia to learn to know the love of Christ that surpasses all knowledge and also to make known within the world of science 'the manifold wisdom of God' in order that the final end of theology, as of all things, may be that the name of the Lord is glorified. Theology and dogmatics, too, exist for the Lord's sake." — Herman Bavinck, Reformed Dogmatics, vol. 1, p. 46
