Yes. It may be a Firefox setting or your machine might need to be re-booted.

Rebooting when I am not using the PC is fine, but stopping to do so as I sit at the PC annoys me a little.

I'm sorry you're having trouble but there's little I can do. It's a browser issue. You could try re-installing the browser. You could also try using IE or downloading the Opera browser.
