Ralph, you must have a huge library!

I believe Scott was an Anglican minister who was converted under the influence of his fellow-minister John Newton. Banner of Truth publishes a short autobiography of him called The Force of Truth. He was probably Calvinistic.

He was a Calvinist. In addition to his works on the Bible he wrote about the Synod of Dordt. I haven't been able to see his actual commentaries, but portions from them are found in a combined Matthew Henry/Thomas Scott production, and what is in there seems to be of a consistently worthwhile quality.

I think Scott's notes tend to be more explanatory. Unfortunately the edition I have doesn't distinguish Scott's work from Henry's, so without comparing it paragraph by paragraph to Henry it would be hard to sort out what is distinctive about Scott.
I hate combined editions.

Any information would be helpfull! | I just found your question while searching on Thomas Scott. In order to reply I have joined Puritan Board. Thomas Scott was a liberal minister in the Church of England in the latter part of the 1700's. John Newton befriended him and led him into the embrace of Calvinistic, Evangelical doctrine. Scott succeeded Newton as minister of Olney. Scott also published an excellent commentary on the whole bible which is rich in his "practical observations".
Yours in Christ

Yes. It is a very excellent commentary. His practical observations from the text are especially well done.
