I Chronicles

What commentaries are available/recommended for the books of Chronicles, particularly I Chronicles?

I would recommend Richard Pratt and Andrew Hill. There is quite a lot of renewed interest in this book lately. If one desires to read some technical commentaries from a more liberal perspective, then there is Dirksen, Klein, and Knoppers. Selman and Wilcock are useful, as well, as is Williamson. Leslie Allen wrote the New Interpreter's Bible Commentary contribution, so it is not nearly as liberal as some of the other authors in that series. The old stand-bys are good as well: Poole's Synopsis and Matthew Henry. Calvin did not write a commentary on the books.

For one steeped in Literary issues there is Sarah Japhets in the OTL, that series is highly critical, but I have not worked with that particular volume much, it is a honker with 2 Chronicles in one volume.
