Thumbs up Hitting James Dickson - need suggestions!

I am hitting the bookshops next week, visiting a very good bookshop in Kilsyth and am looking for suggestions. This is a once a year visit!

I am interested in obtaining good commentaries on Mark, the gospels generally, Acts and Romans.

There was a large volume which I lent to a "friend" who subsequently could not find it. It was a book on all four gospels by FF Bruce - searched in vain - anyone recognise my description and know what it's title was?

Banner of Truth Commentaries

James Dickson have the Banner NT Commentaries by Geoffrey Wilson priced £1.50. I am unable to find these individual commentaries on the Banner web site - are they discontinued?

Has anyone used them profitably?

I did find
Book Title: New Testament Commentaries Vol 1 - Romans to Ephesians
Author : Geoffrey Wilson
Price: £ 9.50
ISBN#: 9780851518985
Binding: Paperback
Page Count : 688
Description: In 1969 the Trust published the first of Geoffrey Wilsons popular commentaries on the New Testament Letters. In many ways they were a totally new concept in evangelical literature. Beginning life as "Reformed Digests" written in a popular style, which gave readers the fruits of the study of many volumes, they have grown over the years into commentaries in their own right, and have been enjoyed throughout the English-speaking world. Now for the first time the Trust has brought together, in two attractive volumes, the commentaries on Romans, 1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, and Revelation.

This would seem to be an anthology (?) and not the 100 page original volumes

I've read all these commentaries. There very good introductory commentaries. I assume that the commentaries in this "omnibus edition" aren't abridged. If they are abridged maybe you'd be better going for individual volumes.

I'd recommend this Harmony of the Gospels, if you've never read a Gospel Harmony, it's a very instructive way to read the Gospels. This book includes instructive notes, and short essays on harmonisation and the errors of higher criticism. Reading a harmony like this brings to light things from the Gospels you never noticed and is as enlightening in its own way as a commentary.

John Murray on Romans, which I do not have myself but hope to get soon:-

There does not seem to be a Geneva commnetary on Galatians. Is there a recommendation out there?

The Geneva commentary on Galatians is by John Brown.

Thanks I did notice this and tried to correct my posting but it went &^\£4%**

The ommentary on Mark is an old one (priced £2.50) and the back cover does not list Galations. I guess thay were still adding commrntaries after Mark was printed.

COMMENTARIES A BETTER INVESTMENT THAN GOLD?
The original price was £2.50, relabelled as £7.50 now retailing at £17

You'd have to look at the resale value on used books to determine how they function as a financial investment.
