Did you buy the 500th Anniv. set of Calvin's commentaries

I'm curious to know how many PBers bought the 500th-anniversary-binding set of Calvin's commentaries?

If I had the money.

I'm blessed to have Spurgeons Sermons full vol. set. I got it last year as a gift. I love it.

I purchased it and got the free copy of the Institutes tossed in with the 500th emblem on it. It sits above my shelf of Bibles on the desk in my Reformation Room.

We cannot regard Calvin too highly, but since his commentaries are

available on PDF (I know, I know : ) if one has a budget that doesn't allow

to buy all good works out there, why not help contemporary writers

who are giving such great contributions to Reformed Theology?

Richard Muller's Unaccomodated Calvin, Christ and the Decree, and his

monumental PRRD to start with, what a scholar, what an effort!!!

These guys deserve all our contributions

Meaning you have a Word of Faith room? or a Joel Osteen closet? or a Jimmy Swaggert bathroom?

I'd say that's a welcome surprise!

The new red binding is much nicer/prettier/handsome [take your pick].

No: Already had the Baker set, a PDF version, and now (my new favorite) an version that is integrated into BibleWorks 8.0! In fact, I've also pulled Calvin's Institutes into BibleWorks. Very, very nice. For now, I only pull a Baker volume off the shelf when I'm looking to do more extensive reading.

I also purchased the 500 anniversary set. I wish I could afford the seven volume Tracts and Letters.

No, silly! I have a "converted garage" painted and carpeted with my home library and a "few" "Reformation" touches:

* Large framed portrait of five Reformers with the line: Post Tenebras Lux.
* Large framed Calvin poster
* Dr. McMahon's 2009 Reformation and Puritan calendar
* Framed Thomas Godwin 5" x 7"
* Framed large poster of the Westminster Assembly
* Framed 5" x 7" John Knox
* Framed 5" x 7" John Owen
* Framed 8" x 10" John Bunyan
* Framed large poster of the Synod of Dort
* Framed "personalized" portrait of Luther with his signature and a written message to me
* Framed leaf out of the Geneva Bible
* Bright yellow "messenger bag" hanging on the door with a "Calvin Rocks" insignia on it
* Framed leaf out of the KJV (early printing in 1600s)
* Set of bobbleheads: Luther, Calvin, Spurgeon, and Al Mohler
* Miniature Luther wind-up walking toy
* Calvin 500 medal in a paperweight
* Framed Calvin picture on desk
* 16 mugs of Reformers and/or theological sayings on bookshelves
* Reformers "jug band" cartoon mousepad

That is my "Reformation Room." When one of my grandsons asked why does Grandpa have all of these really old guys' pictures and statues in the room and if they were all relatives of ours, my eldest son replied: "Micah, those are just Grandpa's 'action figures.'"

Here is another distinction:

Already had the SEWN binding Baker set (1970s-1980s) instead of the junky glued binding set (90s-00s).

A well-digested book is always in your possession.

But I was actually hoping someone would conclude that I stole mine.

Off-topic, but I've always wanted to have a custom bookplate made up for use in my library, based on the famous Ben Franklin quote:

"Only a fool loans books;
half the books in my library were loaned."

Don't worry, Ruben, those of us who have watched you on the PB simply assumed that you stole the books.

[There, that was just to enhance your street cred among the peeps on the PB]
