| | | Who will win the World Series this year?
The Fall air is nipping at us and it's time to set our picks down on the table. Let's keep the wild card whining down to a dull roar please (hey, I'm a Braves fan for what it's worth). We all know who is going to be in the mix. Make your picks like men. -----Added 9/18/2009 at 12:17:16 EST-----
I'll go on record first:
Torre and the Dodgers get it done! Yep, you heard it here in mid-September...

Time to pony up and get on board with someone in the hunt! | Seven games out? It's nine. The Cardinals magic number is eight.

Well, I guess you do have Bob Gibson. He's pretty good. | If we had Bob Gibson in his prime it would be OVER!
Funny story about Bob Gibson. I can't remember the name of the pitching coach for the Cardinals but he had just taken the job when Bob Gibson was in his prime. The pitching coach came up to Gibson out on the mound one day during Spring training and said he had a few suggestions to help Gibson with his pitching.
Gibson said, "Never speak to me again." Love it! -----Added 9/18/2009 at 12:38:47 EST-----

Yeah, I hate all that stuff. When I started following baseball there were 16 teams... 16! Didn't need no stinkin' wild card!

There are a lot of good teams out there this season. It's going to be a great playoff and Series.

A 'Freeway Series' here in LA would be great.
I think it is a real possibility. Angel's starting pitching is rounding into form, and now with Kazmir is best in the Bigs. Red Sox are vulnerable and the Angels own the Yankees anyway.
The Dodgers have scuffled lately but are a young team and will be strong in the postseason. The Cardinals look good on paper but they are in a weak division.

It's all about who gets hot at the right time. If all the pieces fall into place, the Cardinals will be unbeatable. If they don't fall into place, game over.

Last year the Braves won something like 21 out of their last 25 (could be off by a few) in the regular season--and missed the playoffs. Take that and compare to a team like the Marlins, who won two World Series within a decade because they were in the right place at the right time. It's all about when you get hot.

I like Joe Torre and I like Larry Bowa, and I wish them all the best; but not in this year's NLCS.
Phillies in 6, Yankees in 5. Then the World Series; it should be a good contest.

The Yanks broke the bank for CC and he sure is paying off. I can't see continuing his dominance with only 3 days rest.

Cliff Lee is a beautiful pitcher. That game last night was sheer artistry on the part of that man. Anyone who missed the game live should try to catch a rerun of it. to Lee.

As far as the Phillies go (I'm a Braves fan), that's a potent lineup of young but experienced hitters -- Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard; if you make it through them, you've got to put up with the likes of Jason Werth and Raul Ibanez. The only relief you get is Ruiz, and he's killing the ball right now.
Yes, the Yankees will have much to be worried about. They might only get one more start out of CC. Burnett is a decent pitcher, but he's not the guy you want on the mound in a critical game. Because of the way the series sets up, they will only be able to start Pettite one game. But, they do have quite a scary lineup and the most reliable reliever in baseball, so anything can happen.
Commenting on Cliff Lee -- they made a comment in the game that he has a son named Jackson. That would be Jackson Lee. The perfect name for someone going up against the Yankees.

Monkey Boy | I would actually rather have Pettite going than Burnett if I were I Yankees fan. I think the Phils will win tonight, and Yanks will win game 3 with Pettite. The other thing that will really hurt the Yankees is losing the DH (Matsui) in Philly. And if Burnett starts game 5 in Philly, they lose Posada as well (for Molina). That radically changes their lineup - they would lose their 5 and 6 hitters.

The Yankees are an anti-American enterprise. They hate, stand for, and represent all that is evil and communist. Before the opening of every season, all members of the team kick one kitten (not each, the same kitten repeatedly). They cork their bats. There's steroids in their "Big League Chew". They cheat at cards and use loaded dice. They hacked my computer. When you sleep, they let the air out of your tires. They double-dip at parties. They framed Roger Rabbit and Lee Harvey Oswald. When the topic of the American Revolution comes up, they are British loyalists. They are fans of Pelagius and engineered the execution of Servetus, only to blame it on Calvin. They crashed the weather balloon at Roswell, NM. But for the Yankees, Clinton wouldn't have been elected. Mussolini, Il Duce, rooted for the Yankees.
I could go on with their crimes, but suffice it to say I despise the Yankees.
