Hahaha! I'm just waiting for the day when everyone beats everyone and football and baseball goes out of business! I have a deep seeded hatred for sports cuz when we were kids my mother would not let us watch any tv/movies except Little House On The Prairie, Grizzly Adams, and Wildlife Kingdom. Never failed that my dad would switch the tv station from those shows to his football game.....grrrr! Now, I don't even watch tv but I can't let go of the grudge. |

I lived in St. Louis for a while, so I'll always have a soft spot for the Cards!

At first, I thought this thread would be about the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A Minor League team.
Then I realized there would never be a thread about Minor League Baseball, and had to click out of curiosity.

I love minor league ball. I grew up going to Ray Winder Field (the Fenway of the minors) to watch the Arkansas Travelers, at the time St. Louis' AA team. I also used to see the Memphis Chicks play. I was at Bo Jackson's professional debut in Memphis.
Now, I watch the Mobile Bay Bears. They are now the Diamondbacks AA team.

I know, I know. 'Redbirds' has also been the nickname for the Cardinals ever since they adopted the bird as the symbol on the uniform.

The Beloit Snappers are a minor league team for the Twins. Might go sometime, but knowing that they are affiliated with the Twins doesn't help.

Yeah, if we could just get that local boy I used to watch pitch for the Bay Bears over to the Cardinals we'd be in great shape. I'll probably be fishing with him and his dad father-in-law next time he's home. Maybe I can convince him!

Around here folks would think you were talking about the Redwings...
We had the Phoenix Giants when I grew up. I think they're still there. And, of course, the little red birdie football team moved to the Valley of the Sun too.
