Wow, that's a tough question. Pittsburgh and Washington almost certainly will. San Diego, probably; so I'll go with Seattle. They had high expectations last year, so maybe they'll live up to them this year.

I guess I should have included the option 'none of the above' because that is what I think.

Seattle might be the best bet though because Texas is not going anywhere this season.

Maybe the return of Griffey Jr. will give the M's a boost.

It was the bat of Francisco Cabrera in 1992 that sent the Braves into the World Series, Bonds into free agency, and the Pirates into a tailspin from which they've yet to recover...

I vote Pittsburgh, because undoubtedly my Cincinnati Reds will finish last.

So, Pastor Klein, surely you don't think the Tigers will finish better than last, do you? After all, look how the Lions came through for us!
If the Lions go 0-32, maybe we could make it a weighted average between them and the Tigers, thus making the claims of any other city moot.

Great young talent on that team, and pitching to boot! I can easily see them sneaking into the top three in the division with an outside shot at the wildcard. They're my pick to surprise the way the Rays did last year.

Margaret | Can the Tigers really fall that far that fast? They were so close! I don't think the AL Central belongs in the poll because they are all pretty mediocre. It could be any one of them to finish last because it's just their turn.
Your comment reminds me of something I was thinking about the other day. Who would win in a game on a neutral field, using NCAA rules, The Lions or the USC Trojans? It would probably be a good game.

I would still go to a Pirate game every evening in the summer if able! | Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the Pirates have had a winning season since then.
I remember that series very well. I think it was the 3rd game in the series that John Smoltz was pitching. He had a sore elbow, but had a cortisone shot that morning and came in and was dominate. The Pirates had Doug Drabek, but they lost all three games he started (including that decisive final game in which he dominated until the final inning). They really didn't have a closer, and that hurt them. That was also Tim Wakefield's inaugural season, and his knuckleball stymied the Braves the two games he pitched. Plus, the Pirates put out a washed up Bob Walk in one of those games and he pitched the game of his life! Everything fell into place (Walk's improbable win, Wakefield's dominance, their best pitcher Drabek in place for game 7) until the clock struck midnight when Cabrera came up to bat (and PA's own Sid Bream lumbering around third to score the winning run!).
Sigh. I have great memories about that series. I came home one weekend to watch the Smoltz game with my dad. My folks had just gotten a new TV and he wanted me to watch it with him. He died a couple of years later, but that was when he was in better health. LOL, I think he fell asleep during the game (if you knew my dad, that was ordinary behavior!), but it was still a great memory!

I'm fairly certain that they will all stink up the park. There may be a couple of races for the cellar this year.

LOL, if the Pirates had had a decent closer, he never would have gotten to the plate. The other thing that often gets missed in the play is that his single went into left field, where Mr. "No Hustle" himself Barry Bonds lollypopped the throw back in. Even the woefully slow Sid Bream managed to beat that wimpy throw home.
That one play alone might be the reason he decided to go on the juice. |

There's infinite hope, then, for another ho-hum season, if not for my favorite possibility: breaking the AL or modern MLB record for losses in a row. Quote: |

| Hmmm... That is pretty interesting to contemplate. The Lions, IMHO, and even after/with their five draft picks coming up next month, would still be no match for the Trojans. Bill Ford would find some way to sign and suit up some new "girls" - and that would be all "she" wrote.

Margaret | Because of your loyalty to the cause of Detroit ineptitude, I have updated the poll to include the Tigers!
But, I caution you against asking too much. You already got what you wanted in the Lions making history by running the table in reverse. Now you want the same kind of infamy for your Tigers? When will you be satisfied? |

As a native Detroiter, my lust for defeat knows no bounds! I would be over-the-top with the Tigers losing 121 games this year (thus breaking the Mets' record, set in 1962) and also with the Lions losing at least 15 regular season games... If they were to win the exhibition season (there are about two people somewhere in this metropolitan area who'd be foolish enough to get their hopes up over that) and then lose like they did last year, that would put the icing on the cake for me!
Thanks for including the worthy Detroit Tigers in your poll, Pastor!
