| | | Is LSU really a good football team?
Don't get me wrong. I am a Louisiana boy. I cheer for LSU. Arguably, they have some of the best players in the nation. But why is it they play very poorly for 90% of the game (this has been the case for the last 4 games or so) but happen to win in the last few minutes?

It's not that they play poorly, it's just that the SEC is SO tough and competitive. Let's all bow down to the high and mighty SEC!

I hope Ohio St. gets a chance to avenge their SEC whipping from last season against LSU in the title game this season.

I believe their offense is grand, but their defense is a bit overrated. I just haven't seen anything terribly special about them to justify the hype. If they ever show up, its usually near the end of the game (like that last fumble against Bama).
Though, I think the blame for not getting started on the right foot should be laid at the coaches feet. They come up with the game plans and they should find ways to jump start their team early.

Good game. If LSU was a good team they would not be in so close of games all the time (5 of those games). And if they were truly a good team, they would find a way to win even the close ones. Using the SEC as a reason why they have lost two is rediculous. The excuse is always this: "SEC is so good that all the teams beat up on each other and so they don't always go to the national championship game." But the truth is the same thing happens in the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 10 (despite my utter hatred of Pac10 football). This is especially true this year.
So conclusion: LSU isn't really that good, if they were they would've beaten UK and Arkansas. Great college teams go undefeated.

LSU is definitely over-rated. However, the problem (if you want to call it such) is that there is no one dominate team that you can point to and say "That's THE team". Thus, even number one isn't THAT impressive.

My opinion: Since their early season blowouts of Miss. State (which turned out to be a decent team this year) and Va. Tech, LSU has seemingly been getting worse as the year has gone on, or at least hasn't been getting better. (But that doesn't put me in the Saban can do no wrong camp either as he lost games every year he should have won at LSU as well, and had one season where he lost 5 games).
To answer the original question. Yes, LSU is a good team, but not a great one. Remains to be seen whether they can come back in the SEC championship game.

GO HOGS! | I watched the game at my second son's house in Fayetteville. He did his law school at University of Arkansas and is a TRUE razorback. His "Woo pig sooie" shouts at the television terrified my 7 month old grandson. Coming home yesterday, I received a number of congratulatory/knowing comments at airports from people agreeing with my Arkansas Razorback t-shirt.
There is a reason for Arkansas' great performance: McFadden. My older daughter's father-in-law reportedly asked somewhat puckishly if her dad had been sowing his seed elsewhere. My Arkansas son always loves leaving his name in Fayetteville restaurants. As soon as the hostess calls out "McFadden, party of three," all eyes turn in this smallish football frenzied university town. The level of perplexity when this very white average sized attorney steps forward is palpable.

Mizzou is #1! When was the last time that happened? Why is LSU so overrated? What happens if MO and WV both lose next week? What a season!

What a season! | I'm not sure if they were overrated, but a lot of it has to do with the preseason polls, which I wish they would get rid of. LSU was #2 behind USC in the preseason rankings while Mizzou probably wasn't even ranked. IMO it would be better for them to wait at least a month before issuing any polls at all.

We get a lead and play that prevent - zone (no one is near the receiver) defense. I watched KY throw the ball to a receiver who was wide open, I popped some corn in microwave, got a drink and sat back down and then a UT player came into the screen on TV. GRRRRR.
