| | | Favre Retired WISN, the ABC TV station out of Milwaukee, is reporting at this very moment that Brett Favre is retiring.
For me that means the end of my following pro football. I'm hanging by a thread with pro baseball too.
I followed the Favre career from the beginning. I've watched the majority of the games he played. There has not been nor will there ever be a quarterback like No. 4.
Well, at least I'll have a little more time to focus on something else since I won't be watching pro football again.

| | | I am so glad he left on top. I was hoping he would leave with another Super Bowl ring, but I can't complain about the unexpected results of this past season.
An end to an era; a sad day in Green Bay America.

| | It's not like I was a close friend or anything but I graduated from Favre's high school a few years after him. I was in the same class as his younger sister Brandi and his two younger brothers succeeded him at QB (actually, I think we went something like 6 years with a Farve under center--maybe more). His dad, Irv, was the coach of our football team and his mom, Bonita, was the school librarian. I can't tell you how big of a deal Brett is to the tiny town of Kiln, MS. And winning the Superbowl right down the road in New Orleans...it was right out of a Hollywood script.
A lot of people may be surprised to know that Brett was never a big deal at quarterback until later in college. He played on both sides of the ball at Hancock High, handing it off all day long in his dad's wishbone offense and playing safety on defense. He actually went to Southern Miss on a defensive scholarship before his arm was noticed. Even then, he didn't receive any national attention until the Golden Eagles upset Florida State. Then the scouts took notice.
Where I come from he is the one country boy that made it big. Of course everyone claims to have been his best buddy back home. In a strange way, though, he was. He's as down to earth as you'd expect and was always most comfortable around the hometown folks.
Hats of to a great career, Brett! |

| | Football will still continue to grow and gain in popularity, however, this is still a said day for football fans. Brett Favre was/is the face of the NFL. For as long as I can remember watching football, there has been Brett Favre. Football won't be the same without him, I will miss the that kid on the field.
Go Eagles! 2009 Superbowl winners here we come!

3. Terry Bradshaw
4. John Elway
5. Joe Montana
6. Dan Marino
7. Brett Favre
8. Bart Starr

10. Joe Namath | I would agree with this ranking with the exception of ranking Montana at 1, Favre at 2, Marino at 3, Unitas at 5, Baugh at 6, Starr at 7, Staubach at 8, Tarkenton at 9, and Griese at 10
(oh and Phil Simms around 17 or so) |

10. Joe Namath | Wow...no Brady or Manning? | Not yet. Their careers aren't over yet so the final chapter hasn't been written. | That's kind of my point. Brady and Manning have to be up there since they've accomplished way more than most of your list and they're still playing. That is, unless it's a list of strictly retired folks...
Here's how I'd place em:
1. Favre, cause I'm biased plus he holds all the career records that matter while never playing on the best team
2. Montana, won 4 superbowls and redifined QB composure in a revolutionary new system
3. Brady, greatest QB season ever + 3 superbowl championships
4. Elway, comeback kid has to make the top 5
5. Manning, might still become #1 by the time it's all said and done
6. Unitas, redifined the whole position
7. Marino, the best arm but never won the big game
8. Bradshaw, won 4 superbowls but defense was the key
9. Staubach, probably the most likeable (besides Favre)
9. Tarkenton, first scramblin' machine changed defenses forever
10. Starr, he just "metriculated" the ball down the field |

| | | I wouldn't call him the best, but if you wanted to build a team he'd be an incredible start. I know I'll miss him. He was my kind of quarterback. That is, he did whatever he had to do as an individual to help his team out. He would scramble, run, take a hit, rebound, and still make a great long throw.

| | | You know, I think he may. He gives all, physically and emotionally, during the season. At the end his tank is empty. But this guy loves the game. His run with the Pack was over. A team that could really use his veteran leadership would be the Jets. Stranger things have happened. |

Why not come back as a mentor for the Pack? No need to practice as rigorously and yet you still get to play the game you love.
I just fear he will do a Michael Jordan and fizzle out rather than go out on top. |
