| | | Detroit Red Wings sign Leino Red Wings sign Finnish star Ville Leino | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press Quote:
Leino, 24, signed a one-year contract.
“We think he’s a good hockey player,” general manager Ken Holland said, adding Leino was recommended by the team’s scouting staff. “He wants to come over to North America. He’s got good hockey sense. He’s good down low. He’s got skill, good hands. His goal is to play in the NHL. If he can’t make our team, we can send him back to the Finnish league.”
Leino played this season for Jokerit, scoring 28 goals and producing 77 points in 55 games, finishing second in the league in scoring and winning the Lasse Oksanen trophy as the league’s top player.
| Leino is a fairly common name in Finland. |

| | | Yes. I'm at the Crowne Plaza. I'm going to go get something to eat for lunch at a shopping center nearby. |

| | Oh, Rich, just to clue you in: the place for celebrities to stay and get their bearings here - and now, you're one! ( great picture, BTW: what did we ever do w/o Photoshop?!) - is the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham: Detroit Hotels: The Townsend Hotel Official Site | Luxury Hotel in Birmingham, MI.
The Rolling Stones stayed there when they played at the Superbowl here a couple of years ago, and because I had an appointment in B'ham that day, I saw Ron Wood exiting... I also, last year, waited in the heat (no pun intended) for 45 minutes outside the Townsend, hoping to catch a glimpse of Shaquille O'Neal when Miami played the Pistons last year... Almost all visiting pro sports teams (and new, ballyhooed signers of contracts with the Wings, Pistons and Tigers) stay at the Townsend. (New acquisitions by the Lions ( ) tend to settle into the Days Inn in Livonia... )
So... Until you get settled in, the Townsend is really the place to stay here.
Congrats.
Margaret
