| | I remember Cricket magazine from my youth. That was pretty cool. Those insects who chirp at night are pleasant outside; a nightmare inside the house. Buddy Holly's band: Darts: fun! The sport with bats: I don't get it. But that's just me.

| | | I do not think people who actually play cricket have any idea how cricket is played and/or scored.
But yeah I watch the highlights on Sky Sports News... |

But yeah I watch the highlights on Sky Sports News... | It wasn't until I went to India and saw people absolutely obsessed with the game that I really started to take an interest. And once I finally saw all these kids play it hardcore, all the rules started to make a lot more sense. It is weird seeing kids play cricket instead of any of the other usual sports
And I can't forget the Indian oscar nominated movie Lagan which made Cricket seem like the best sport ever created (well, besides hockey anyway )
I really enjoy the Twenty20 format, as it is a lot quicker and I think the key to becoming more mainstream. | | The Following User Says Thank You to tellville For This Useful Post: | |

| | I love the game, and have very fond memories of playing Cricket in the backyard for hours upon hours growing up in NZ. I don't follow it much anymore (hard to do here in Canada), but I do remember the year Martin Crowe introduced the 20 over version of the game and it started taking hold. I prefer test match/one day international formats of the game to the 20 over version. A 20 over game doesn't have the time to develop the same way a 50 or unlimited overs game does.... however they do take a little longer to play

| | Cricket is brilliant! Much better than that glorified game of rounders they call "baseball".
20-20 is a good introduction, but once you really get into test match cricket you really appreciate just how good it is. |

| | | Baseball is a great game, no doubt about it. I'll have to give an ear to cricket a little more. |

| | | My favorite Batsmen are/were Dean Jones from Australia and Desmond Haynes of the West Indies. Cricket in the early 90's was the best. Today Australia has harnessed all the sports technology and is dominating. The game has become boring due to this.

It's great to know many of you are familiar about this crazy game.
Shutting business, goes same in Terai Nepal, and India. People get ready in advance for the match.
about ten years ago it was not so popular but now even in the remote villages, oh the little kids, all of them can be seen with bats and ball. |

When I visited N.East 1997, I did not see Cricket there but only footbal and Volleybal but now may be different. |

| | | Loved watching it when I was overseas.
Can't pick up any games back here in the US though.
Back in the early 90's when I was in Sasebo we had a sports channel out of Hong Kong that aired the Ashes every year as well as alot of the significant matches.

20-20 is a good introduction, but once you really get into test match cricket you really appreciate just how good it is. | I realize test is the ultimate form of cricket, and yes it clearly is the form of cricket which requires the most strategy and probably more strategy than pretty much any other mainstream game. But it is very long and drawn out and thus makes watching a whole game almost impossible.
Twenty20 however has lots of action, is done in a few hours, and I think with the right marketing could even become mainstream in North America, maybe not like football or hockey but probably more like MLS.
Raj, yeah I know M.S. Dhoni (his salary is crazy!) and Sachin Tendulkar (arguably the greatest batsman ever!).
Did you see Yuvraj Singh 6 sixes in one over during the Twenty20 Cricket world cup against England? Absolutely crazy!
P.S.
Twenty20 is (from Wikipedia): Twenty20 is a form of cricket, originally introduced in the United Kingdom for professional inter-county competition by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), in 2003. Both teams have a single innings and bat for a maximum of 20 overs.
A Twenty20 game is completed in about three hours, with each innings lasting around 75 minutes, thus bringing the game closer to the timespan of other popular team sports such as football. It was introduced to create a lively form of the game which would be attractive to spectators at the ground and viewers on television and as such it has been very successful. The ECB did not intend that Twenty20 would replace other forms of cricket and these have continued alongside it. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
