    Any rugby fans?

I happen to play prop for a rugby side, here in Greenville. I also like to watch rugby (Setanta Sports seems to be the only network that carries it.) I was wondering, does anyone else like rugby?

Well, at least there's two of us.

I am an All Blacks fan...of course that is because they were the first team that I ever knew by name. I try to watch them, when I can, but of course there's not much on TV.

Yes. Scotland of course. Have been to Murrayfield several times. Always an awesome atmosphere. I was asked to trial for our local team when in high school, but at the time I felt it was too "worldly." Oh well.

My family gives me grief over pulling for the All Blacks; especially those still in Scotland. I was infected by All Black fever while growing up. One of our ministers had been a missionary there and we had dear friends from NZ that taught me the game.

I have friends here that play for Battleship. They've asked me to try for the team, but I think I getting a wee bit old for that, even if I had the time One of them is from South Africa. He will not let this Springbok thing rest. . .

And rightly so! For punishment you will eat a bowl of Haggis and listen to piobrochd ( bagpipe music) for 2 hours. That ought to do ya.

But the All Blacks are an awesome team. Sadly when the All Blacks play Scotland the result is a foregone conclusion.

And here is another ABs fan. They've had some problems in this Tri Nations though.

No Aussie love here? Green is a nicer color imo.

I played on the back line, both in high school and the army. It's hard to find people who enjoy the game, much less who can play it. Everyone is crazy about football though. =(

If I may blow my own trumpet, in schools rugby I was on of those rare props who won scrums as well as being all over the field... I loved it. Our school year was practically unbeaten in its 7 years (apart from a dedicated sports school full of giants we visited once a year - ouch!). In those days I was too arrogant and disdainful to try out for the county when I had the chance. I used to get rid of my aggression using rugby and was a violent player (meaning that I enjoyed causing a lot of acceleration [in myself and my body parts] and a lot of deceleration in the other team's players ). Interestingly, rugby had a part in God's saving hand on me, in that it was when I tore my shoulder muscles in a game and was laid up for a couple of months that I suddenly had no outlet for my aggression and could no longer ignore the real questions.

But that was when Rugby was amateur; when the England players were also accountants and doctors and bricklayers. I haven't been following it for the past few years, but some things have come to my attention regarding eye gouging and fake blood that make me think it's a completely different game now. Professionalism seems to have produced players more stupid than footballers.

I had never watched a lick of rugby until I purchased Setanta Sports two years ago (for Premier league soccer). Even then, I only watched a few minutes here and there. I didn't understand the sport at all for a while, so I had hardly any interest. After reading about the rules on Wikipedia and then seeing it in practice, I see the appeal much more.

I'm still not a rugby fan or watch much of it, simply because I don't have a rooting interest. It doesn't matter the sport--if I don't have any preference in who wins, I can't watch.
