| | | Anne (Gryphonette) and I were such kindred spirits
I am so forlorn. Anne (Gryphonette) and I were such kindred spirits.
We both have silver hair, we love our grandchildren, good music, theology books, and we both strive to live at peace with everyone....until now.
I never would have dreamed that the Packers and the Cowboys would meet in such a significant game and that my dear sister would be cheering for the bad guys. I should have seen it coming but I must admit it all came as a surprise.
This isn't just a football game Thursday night, it's GOOD versus EVIL. The Packers, honest hard working boys from the frozen tundra meeting this slick, slimy gang of hoodlums from Dallas. Let's look at Dallas.
That's where JR Ewing was from. He was the corrupt adulterous tycoon from TV who was shot in 1980 by his sister-in-law who was pregnant with his baby.
The Packers don't have cheer leaders but they borrow cheerleaders from St. Norbert's College now and then. Norbert was a saint. The girls are nice wholesome girls who are modest and teach Sunday school and stuff.
The Cowboys hire strippers to lead cheers and what have you not.
The Cowboys are owned and managed by Jerry Jones. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, the slick flow of Jenny Jones with the deadly tongue of Jim Jones and the first name of.... of... Jerry Lewis. Yeah, I think you know what I mean.
So there you have it, empirical evidence that Green Bay is good and Dallas is evil.
I am just so saddened that my sister Anne will cheer on a team of reprobates just because they happen to play in the area. Oh, chagrin! Oh, vexation! |

| | | I'll grant that the Cowboys being - on paper - a Dallas team is regrettable. Quote:

I am just so saddened that my sister Anne will cheer on a team of reprobates just because they happen to play in the area. Oh, chagrin! Oh, vexation! | However, keep in mind they actually play in Irving, and their new stadium is being built in Arlington, here in Tarrant county, not Dallas county.
That's a sore point around here, though....the new stadium. The new, ONE BILLION DOLLAR stadium.
For those desirous of purchasing "club seating" (box seats) season tickets, they will be required to first purchase, for $16K, a "license", which allows them the opportunity to buy the actual tickets, working out to upwards of $340 PER GAME. My nephew has a pair of season tickets (down around the end zone), and he's worried he won't be able to afford comparable tickets for the new stadium.
It's deplorable how not only do ticket scalpers and radio stations snag most available tickets for concerts, but before long the only people who can afford season tickets to major league football games won't be "people" at all, but corporations. Okay, and the Really, Really Rich.
But ordinary sports fans?
Nope.
(Not that I see the attraction in attending a game in person over watching it at home. Much more comfy at home, plus we can use the TiVo to replay bits we missed the first time.)

The rest of the league merely exists to provide someone for them to play in exhibition of their greatness.

Sad truth, pray for revival and root for Dallas.

Bottom line: I really don't care who wins Thursday night's game or any game. To tell you the truth, I'm more concerned about my church, its spirirtual growth, and the preaching of the gospel in my community.
But it doesn't hurt to watch a football game once in a while.

I have Wisconsin friends and they are not too Christian and claim their state isn't either (not that many are), I pray for them of course.

| Anne,
I hate to burst your bubble, but once they build that new billion $ stadium and ticket prices sky rocket..the same thing will happen that has been happening here in Jax with the Jaguars...
Not only has the cost of tickets gone up to pay for the Stadium, but concession prices have gone up as well, and people are opting to stay home--and in that locals aren't buying the tickets..the NFL does a local black out of all games when X number of tickets haven't been purchased, so you can't even watch the game at home.
A few years ago, one of the local Supermarkets bought up a bunch of tickets and gave them away to customers who were willing to stand in line for a couple hours to get them, just so that they wouldn't black out the games, but they have found people just don't care anymore..they'll stay home and watch another team play..
When they first built the stadium, the NFL didn't want "any other teams" to play there, like the Florida/Georgia Game, that was played at the Gator Bowl Stadium for years, people protested..as that was a HUGE money maker for the city..and as our tax dollars were also going to help pay for the stadium, they relented.

Romo does seem to be a nice kid. I wonder where he's from. Oh, look at that, he's a Wisconsin native. I should have known. |

His parents are also relocating back to Texas.

Unless he throws six or seven interceptions on Thursday night.
That'd be California's fault.

Here is the caption that was running in our local fish-wrap here in Janesville: Quote: |
The storyline seems perfect as Wisconsin native Tomy Romo prepares to meet Packers legend Brett Favre in a huge NFL matchup Thursday night. But its not quite what it seems.
| Obviously the editorial staff doesn't understand what the word "native" means.
You've now burst all my bubbles Travis, thanks for nothing.
