| | | What are some good swashbuckling movies? I would ask that it be "clean," but since the majority of swashbuckling movies come from an older era, they are likely to be clean anyway. Anyhoo, I recently saw the Disney version of The 3 Musketeers.
Any others?

| | | Errol Flynn classics such as:
Captain Blood-1935
The Adventures of Robin Hood-1938
Charge of the Light Brigade- 1940
The Seahawk- 1941
The Adventures of Don Juan-1948
Tyrone Power was another golden age swashbuckler:
The Mark of Zorro-1937
The Three Musketeers-1930
Douglas Fairbanks Jr. did a sensational one:
The Prisoner of Zenda- 1938 I believe
For more contemporary swashbucklers see Ridley Scott's directorial debut:
The Duelists- 1977
John Huston had a hand in a pair of adventure flicks:
The Wind and the Lion-1975
The Man Who Would Be King-1975
(Both star Sean Connery)
Also check out the Three Musketeer movies from the 1970s that Richard Lester of Superman II fame directed for the Producers of the original Superman movies.

| | | "The Man In the Iron Mask" (1998)
Actually, it's possibly my favorite movie of all time, and certainly the one I've re-watched the most times. |

Against All Flags | Widely considered the biggest box office flop in Hollywood history, do not see this dreadful piece of garbage!
A terribly self-aware camp-fest with a horrible script, poorly cast, terribly directed.
Gina Davis is no Errol Flynn, and Frank Langella makes for a dreadful casting choice as a villainous pirate.
Renny Harlin who directed Cliff Hanger and Die Hard 2 helmed this one into the rocks.
It had a budget of 85 million dollars and made 3 million at the box office effectively dooming the independent studio that bankrolled it.
That now defunct company was Carolco, makers of the Rambo and Terminator series, two franchises that through huge legal battles now belong to other studios. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
