Me too. Not only was he a great director/producer, but his acting abilities were also quite good.
I loved his uncredited cameo appearance as a doctor in Death Becomes Her.

The very first movie I ever seen was directed by Pollack back in 72. It was Jeremiah Johnson. My sister and her soon to be husband took me to see it. One of the best out door movies I had ever seen. Still love it.

| | Oh, man. He was an artist who will no longer make art.
I'm sorry, he was really one of my favorites. He produced Michael Clayton, The Quiet American, directed some and acted some as well. He recently had been working a lot with Steven Soderbergh and the late Anthony Minghella.

I guess no one has seen (or would admit to seeing) "Eyes Wide Shut." He played a doctor and I believe the Grand Puhbah.
Interestingly, that movie never made sense until I read "Davinci Code" and found what all those rituals were.
*I watched at an earlier time in life.

*I watched at an earlier time in life. | Yes, I too saw Eyes Wide Shut at a different stage of maturity. I actually really liked Pollack's role: he was creepy and menacing - probably the most interesting character in the film. Actually, for a Christmas movie in New York it's pretty great - the lights and color are excellent.
Pollack was one of those directors who almost always made very good to great films. He mainly worked with adult dramas and thrillers, but he also gave us a great comedy in Tootsie. I would put him right up there with Scorsese and Spielberg as my favorite directors...
