| | | The new Indy movie
I read a couple of reviews by No Longer a Libertine and Tellville, but other than that it's been pretty quiet on the PB concerning the new Dr. Jones movie. I finally got a chance to go see it last night, and though it was a bit outlandish it was not horrible. You have to take into account that it is adventure fiction that is meant to entertain. That's the way all of the movies have been in this series.
What's the consensus of the PB by those who have seen it?

I liked it. Spielberg and his occultish overtones drive me nuts. But, otherwise, I enjoyed it.

There were a couple of times I had to remind myself that it was just a movie and I shouldn't read too much into it. But sometimes I wonder if Spielberg and Lucas would admit to as much, or if they really are trying to "prove" something with some of their overtones. But this whole series has been based on "over-the-top supernatural" happenings, so that's why I reminded myself it was just a movie.

It was good. The worst of the 4 movies though, imho. Ironman was a much better by far, in all aspects.

I had to remind myself that Harrison Ford is 65 years old. With that reminder I liked the movie.

Neither the second nor the fourth compare in any way to the first or third.

I think this one was clearly better than Temple of Doom - that was, apart from the opening, more or less trash-heap material. I, too, found myself having to cringe at times at the sheer silliness of what was going on - but it wasn't a badly crafted movie at all (and pales as you said to 1 (my clear number 1) and 3 (again a clear 2nd))

I was invited to watch the movie the movie again for free. So I did. It was actually a lot better the second time. I paid more attention to the subtle things which were a plenty and because my expectations had been shattered it was much much better. So, I'm not sure if I should alter my review or not. I definitely thought it sucked hardcore the first time around, but the second time it was a lot more fun. What do you guys think? Should I alter my review or let my first impression stand?

I enjoyed the first 45 minutes, and thought the rest of the movie was lame. the "theme" to me was a horrible choice. Seriously Area 51?

Lame movie.
For the length of the picutre I sat there while the plot was force fed to me by horrible acting.
I like Shia LeBouf, I think he's a good actor. Apparently his talent was out to lunch for the entire filming of this movie. I thought he was a big let down. I don't think he should play anymore greaser fencing prodigies in the future.
Moreover, you had the English turncoat who switched sides pretty much every 25 minutes. It was suprising the first time he betrayed Jones. The second, third, and fourth times just made it insulting, as if I'm suposed to jump in my seat at some big unexpected plot twist at that point.
The sets with relation to the plot were also an insult to one's intelligence, but that's probably because of the subject material. I'm actually supposed to believe that these highly intelligent, inter-dimensional beings came to Earth on a highly advanced spaceship, were worshipped as gods, and the best sort of temple structures they could manage were built out of stone and dried mud. Impressive. (Not) That's the silliness of the entire UFO theory though.
Lastly, 60 year-old men fighting is not something to woo over. It doesn't make a great action sequence.

I saw it at a drive in from the back of my pickup, under blankets with my daughter and son's fiance with lots of munchies, and that was the best part. I vote moderately lame, with the standard beauty bad girl switched from a blonde nazi to a brunette commie and lots of Russian special forces who beat the Wehrmacht but couldn't shoot an old man from a close distance even using thousands of rounds.
