Knowing - with Nicolas Cage.
A boy (Ben Mendelsohn) is given an envelope that has been unpacked from a 50 year old time capsule. In the envelope is a piece of paper containing nothing but numbers, with no apparent meaning. When the boy's father (Nicolas Cage) begins to look more closely he determines that the numbers seem to be predictions of disasters. Also with Lara Robinson, Rose Byrne and Chandler Canterbury. Directed by Alex Proyas. [1:55]

my husband and I literally just got back from seeing the movie. He didn't like it. We spent a while discussing what the hidden meanings in it were.
ETA:
There were a lot of horrible deaths that were portrayed graphically and sensationally. Could haunt you if you are sensitive.

Thanks for the post. The trailer looked interesting, but I didn't know of the "hidden" meaning, etc.

Thanks. I thought it would be just like the National Treasures....figuring out clues, with help for people instead of treasure at the end. Maybe I'll save 10 bucks.

I'd never heard of it either and I'm disappointed that C. Matthew's review was so ambiguous. I'd really like to know what he thinks of the movie before I decide to see it or not.

I saw the film last night. It was indeed what the review says...
First of all, it was simply a poor film. Poorly scripted. Poor effects. Awful Plot.
It was also written from a completely warped world view. Not only that, but the deaths are done in such a way it is haunting.... they are terrible, yet almost ignored. People burning to death, etc... all while Nic Cage is walking around without a care. I was disconcerted even while walking out of the theater. One of the worst films ive ever seen.

Went last night with my kid. "People burning to death, etc... all while Nic Cage is walking around without a care."...um, he told his friend how horribly haunted he was by the memories in his mind of them burning...so he didn't get real visibly emotional but maybe he's a Presby, not a charismatic
Anyway, we both enjoyed it and I had a great time talking with son on the way home. I talked about how PERFECTLY they portrayed the deception of aliens here to save us who are really fallen angels, and how angels appear as men, and fallen angels as beings emanating light. We had a great conversation.
I'd rather watch a movie like this where the father is trying so hard to do anything to save his son, and is a man of action and proactive effort, than half the garbage out there with no occult, no swearing, and no violence but the Fathers/men are jerks.

Saw it. Wish I hadn't. It was VERY creepy and graphic for being PG 13. Blasphemous in how they twisted Scripture. The last scene of the boy and girl running through the field toward the tree of life was TOTALLY over the top.
