Just got back from the midnight showing. Wow. I give it two thumbs up. Even the women folk liked it.

Ledger was amazing in his part as The Joker.

A very interesting view of morality -- I don't think it will be a spoiler to anyone to hear that it was totally postmodern in that respect.

Okay, I don't recall there being any sexual references or language. The objectionable part some people may have is to the violence. For a movie rated PG-13, it was quite excessive. The Joker does some mighty sadistic things in an effort to...well, do whatever it is he is trying to do. Two Face also gets pretty grotesque; his facial injuries gave me chills down my back EVERY time the camera showed him. All in all, it's enough to get under your skin (as was Christopher Nolan's intention) and get into young children's nightmares. I would strongly encourage a preview before taking the kids.

By the way, this is just my on the content. My opinion of the movie is a different topic altogether.

Because I took my boy to see Iron Man and I was very dismayed that there was a casual sex bedroom scene in it. I had seen nothing to warn me in advance. I suppose because they don't show any 'rude' body parts they don't have to. But it was more than we wanted to see. I think this is one we will have to wait for the DVD (if at all) and check it first.

Before seeing a movie, I always check out Plugged In Online for their review. It's part of Focus on the Family (I know, I know). Regardless of what one might think about Christians reviewing every movie that comes out (even the nasty ones!), it really is helpful in determining if I should attend a certain movie.

Would it be too intense for anyone under 10 to see it? Would like to see it but from what I have heard it might be too much for my son who just turns 10 next month. He really wanted me to take him to see it tonight.
I think it's ridiculous that they are marketing this movie to kids that are way to young to see it with happy meal toys, cereals, and action figures.

There is quite a bit of violence and Two-Face is pretty disgusting looking. You decide. Personally, I probably wouldn't take a child that young.

I don't know how this is sounding, as I don't have kids; but, I really wouldn't recommend a ten year old see it. There are things the Joker does that really got under my skin. This is not a movie with scary parts, like the boogy man will jump out from around the corner or anything. The scary parts were prolonged images of very grotesque wounds, new & innovative ways of ending someone else's life, and the perpetual anticipation of death. There were multiple times in the movie that I was given the sinking feeling in my stomach of "Oh my goodness. These people may die." The only other time were I felt such a connection to the elements of death in a film was with Saving Private Ryan (not a comparison of violence, just the confrontation of death I found to be notable between the two). One of the ways Christopher Nolan brings such intensity to the story is by breaking the characters of their principles, tossing them into sheer choas, and keeping them alive only long enough to become the very person they always hated. The line of morals are blurred as each character questions why he or she is maintaining their values in the capacity they are. This is not only done with the main characters but with countless lay people in the story. The film is about the deconstruction and degradation of principles inside an individual. This is something Nolan does an excellent job of making truly psychologically terrifying.

Not wanting to have anyone who has seen this movie to give anything away but from what I have seen of pictures online of this version of the Joker, it looks like his white face and red lips are just painted on instead of being a permanent scar like in the first Batman movie with Jack Nicholson's Joker. Was wondering about that.
Any ideas? Almost tempted to go see it my self with out my son.

In the film the Joker is wearing the makeup to cover scars. For about 1/2 a second, the viewer gets to see his face.

Language was not that bad (that I can remember). No nudity. No sex scenes.

Heath Ledger's act was not bad. I was disappointed in the movie as a whole, though. It really didn't deliver, especially considering the hype that surrounded it. The movie lasted too long as well.

Here is my propostion.

Christians should not view movies that ...let the discussion begin.

Why or why not? Just a reminder: our children will want to know why we believe what we believe and why we believe what we believe? In addition, as they grow up they are developing their view of the world. We have been given the responsibility to train them up in the way (G-d's way, G-d's law, G-d's word, G-d's view of reality) they should go... As they view films their minds, will and emotions are being constructed by their eye and ear gate.

My wife and I almost went to the midnight showing. We decided not to as 1) tickets are now 8.50 a pop, and 2) I wasn't really thrilled about watching a movie with a leading role given to Heath "Brokeback" Ledger.

I think that was probably a good save. The evaluation at plugged-in helped me to be persuaded that it probably was a little more than I cared to digest, and what's more there were even some reviews from some major secular news sources that asked why in the world it was given only a PG-13 rating, and stating that "NO, you should not take your grade school children if you don't want to have to take care of nightmares for the next couple of weeks".

Batman and that series' villains never really hit it off with me in the same way as say, Marvel's X-Men/X-Factor or Daredevil did.
