Worship Psa 5:7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.

Favorite Psalms for Listening & Learning

I have The Book of Psalms For Singing and a Scottish Metrical Psalter (1650) with commentary by John Brown of Haddington.

My Church doesn't sing from any Psalters, so other than common tunes and metres with which I am familiar, I can't sing many of the Psalms, because I don't read music. Therefore, I've bought some downloadable Psalms from Crown and Covenant Publications- Psalms, Psalters, and Psalm-Singing. that I really enjoy listening to and practicing with. However, some of the Psalm Samples I've heard are not good.

I particularly like the Album Sing a New Song with Charles McBurney & Choir. What are some Albums that have either Psalms from one of the two Psalters I mentioned above, that also are as appealing as Sing a New Song? This is all the practice I get, and I really want to add some different Psalms to Chloë's and my family worship, but I'll only be able to learn them by hearing and singing along with them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated...especially if their available to buy and download electronically.

Josh -- You might enjoy:

Psalms of Praise by New Song

You are My God: Kids Sing Psalms (check out this thread)

His Mercy Fills the Earth: Trinity Psalter Selections (you can also get the Trinity Psalter Kit here)

Charles McBurney has a useful DVD on getting started with psalm singing here.

My personal favorite is the 4-CD set of Scottish Metrical Psalms sung by the Northern Ireland Presbytery Choir.

And I would be happy to send you 2 psalm CD's from the Presbyterian Reformed Church for free. Just let me know on that.

Blessings, brother!

Josh, I have a list of familiar hymn tunes that are used in our Psalter (Book of Psalms for Singing). Many have found it to be helpful in learning to sing from our Psalter. I'll try to attach it to this message if possible. If not, contact me via PM and I'll get it to you via email...

I heard Brian Schwertley say once that there was a CD on which the psalms were sung directly out of the NKJV. Does anyone know if this is on sale anywhere.

Thanks Andrew,

I just purchased the 2 cd set you mentioned, and over $100 at Crown and Cov. They should give you a cut!!! ;-)

I wish the 5 cd's from the Scottish Met. Psalter weren't so expensive, or even if they had a deal to buy 4 get one free, etc.... So I just got the first volume, and will go from there. I am not an exclusive Psalmist, but I would like to pursue singing certain Psalms in harmony acapella. Not only would the singing be a blessing, but also to improve overall congregational singing ability.

No commission for me, but I'm delighted to hear this. I know the Scottish Metrical Psalm cd's are on the expensive side. I got tapes back in 1994 in Dublin and listen to them every week often in the car. That first volume happens to be my favorite of the four. I hope these recordings will be a blessing to you. Enjoy, and may God be praised!

Here is the audio for 50 tunes to use with the Scottish Metrical Psalter (from SermonAudio):

SermonAudio.com - Fifty Psalm Singing Tunes

With that many tunes, you could mix and match and have plenty of tunes to choose from!
