| | | What Should I Expect? If one were to upgrade the RAM in their laptop, what should it enhance? (going from 1014 mb on Windows Vista to 2Gb) What are the noticeable differences? |

| | | I think it would be a noticeable difference if you were running multiple programs. If you are just surfing and sending e-mail, 1GB may be satisfactory.
It's really a case of how the laptop is used...

| | | Josh, Vista needs a minimum of 2 GB to operate effectively. Vista is a memory hog. More is better. If your machine can take 4 GB (and you can afford it), do it. I have a Toshiba laptop with 2 GB and a desktop with 6 GB. The 2 GB laptop still plods along like a sprinter wearing cement shoes. The desktop runs briskly. Summary: buy as much as you can afford wit Vista. |

| | | Josh, you should expect the sun to start shining, birds will sing, rainbows will form in the heavens, and the laptop will do the vacuuming.
At least that's what I've been told. When I added memory, all I noticed was that things happened quicker. The sad thing is that you get used to it so fast that you don't notice it anymore. |

This can slow everything down to a crawl. By having enough RAM you eliminate that potential bottleneck.
Do you need more memory? Almost definately with Vista. One way to tell is to watch your hard drive light when you system starts running slowly. Is it flashing during a time when you think it shouldn't be? If so, then Windows is probably 'paging' memory to your hard drive.
