| |  Do you have a way to eject the drive and then re-insert it to make sure it is seated properly. Notebook hardware failures are always a bit more problematic.
Does the drive have any power when you try to open it? |

| Yes. And the light is flashing. And when I first put a CD in, it makes the start up noise, etc. But nothing occurs. When I explore the system, the drive doesn't show. |

Are there any drives listed under DVD/CD-ROM drives?
Are there any devices in the list that have ? next to them or do you see anything there that might indicate your drive is there but the driver is messed up? |
