How does one compress, say Word document files, into a Zip Folder?

How absurd a tenet is this, which holdeth that there is some particular worship of God allowed, and not commanded? What new light is this which maketh all our divines to have been in the mist, who have acknowledged no worship of God, but that which God hath commanded? Who ever heard of commanded and allowed worship? - George Gillespie

You need winzip. I have an old free version (ver 9). I dunno but I suspect you can get the free lite version at WinZip® - The Zip File Utility for Windows - Zip/Unzip, Encrypt/Decrypt somewhere.

The Regulative Principle: The Scriptures are the “only infallible rule of faith and practice, no rite or ceremony ought to have a place in the public worship of God, which is not warranted in Scripture, either by direct precept or example, or by good and sufficient inference” (Samuel Miller).

Do you want to "pack" several files into one zip file for emailing?
Or do you just want the files to reside in a compressed folder on your hard-drive so they take up less room?

Then Winzip is the best way to go, but technically it is shareware, not freeware. After the trial period you're supposed to buy it.
Then are some zip utils that work just as well and are truly freeware.
One that I like is Filzip home. Try a great, free zip program.

I don't believe you need WinZip with Vista. You should have the right-click option as described by Chris, built in.

Well, I just right-clicked and Sent to Compressed Folder, then put 'em in my email as an attachment.

My personal favorite for compressing files is 7-Zip. It's interface is clean and, more often than not, I need it's ability to create tarballs and then gzip them so I can upload them onto the web and then use some custom commands to gunzip and then expand the tarball.
