| | | Any MS Access Users Out There?
I created a database and imported two Excel spreadsheets to create two tables. I'd like to make one of the common fields the primary key so I can query information from both tables. I opened up one of the tables in Design View, selected the field, then clicked on the key icon to add the primary key to that field. When I try and close the table, it comes up with an error window that says "Index or primary key can't contain a Null value". Anybody know what null value its talking about?

What's the common field?
Haven't used access for a couple terms. Here is something that may help.

Thanks for your response. I don't know how, but I didn't see your response way back when.
I appreciate your help, especially the link. Understanding how to make fields null values is the next thing I'd like to learn, as it will be helpful here at work.
I figured out what I need to do to make a field common between two tables. In design view, you click on the common field in one table and drag it to the corresponding field in the 2nd table. It automatically draws a line between the two fields.
Thanks again for your help,
Bob

| | | The field you want to make a primary key must contain data; it cannot be empty. You need to analyze the spreadsheet and see if that column has a cell that is blank, if so you need to put some data in all the blank cells. Hitting the space key is a form of data. A null is that lack of any data.
