Where I Was Baptized

Jay's Post sort of sparked an idea and I thought I'd start a thread that might generate more posts.

I was converted in a Free Will Baptist Church (now, don't ya love God's Irony) that didn't have a Baptistry, so we used the lake. Here are some pictures from Google Maps showing the place where I was baptized. The glorious town of Daisy, Arkansas. Population: 177.

It is God that multiplies our sorrows....
God, as a righteous Judge, does it, which ought to silence us under all our sorrows; as many as they are, we have deserved them all, and more: nay, God, as a tender Father, does it for our necessary correction, that we may be humbled for sin, and weaned from the world by all our sorrows; and the good we get by them, with the comfort we have under them, will abundantly balance our sorrows, how greatly soever they are multiplied. - Matthew Henry

I was baptized in a First Southern Baptist church that had been burned down by an arsonist. So, the church met in the parking lot under a tent while the church was rebuilt. Thus I was baptised in the temporary facility- a horse trough.

My college swimming pool.

A memorable baptism I attended was in my college senior year, which I was doing abroad at the Univ of St Andrews in Scotland. The local church did a baptism in March in the North Sea. Frozen chosen indeed.

According to my original certificate that I am looking at right now

...I was baptized at "The Methodist Church" of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. (It does not state the exact name, but I would imagine there was only 1 Methodist church in Camp Hill, PA. The date was June, 15th 1958. I was born October, 17th, 1957. The Rev Clyde E. Way performed the baptism.

I was christened in an RC Church in 1955, St. Francis of Assisi and then I was totally immersed in a Baptist church turned EV Free church in 1972.

The title of this thread reminds me of the famous bulletin blooper:

Quote:
This afternoon there will be a meeting in the North and South ends of the church. Babies will be baptized at both ends.

I was sprinkled as an infant at St. John's Episcopal Church in Back River, NY. I was dunked as a unbelieving high-school freshman at a charismatic youth event held at New Covenant Fellowship in Carthage, NY. I was immersed as a believing high-school senior in a North Country Fellowship member's pool, in Carthage, NY.

The last one "musta taken"... North Country Fellowship is the church I pastor today.

In the church were i currently attend they normally practise infant-baptism, but since I was not baptised as a child and first came to seek the lord at the age of 13 that is the age I was baptised 9nov 1997 in Bregninge Kirke on Ærø.

I am double-dipped. Apparently the first one didn't count.

The first time, I was baptized with my mother and two sisters in March of 1970 at Marquette Manor Baptist Church on the south side of Chicago (California Avenue). The church is no longer there as it was burned down in the 1970s by an arsonist.

The second time, I was baptized in a swimming behind a home in Greenville, SC. in 1984.

Believe it or not is a church partnership between the United Methodists and the PCUSA! And has been for around 50 years. They alternate between UMC and PCUSA pastors.

For some reason the cool photo is not showing up. Hmmmm

I was baptized in a Campbellite Church of Christ at age 11. Re-baptized (the Campbellites do that a lot) in the Jordan River in Israel at age 21. Saved at age 30 (in my house), listening to John Piper on the radio.

I was baptized in the year of 1991 at the age of 24 in a baptismal pool of the Central Moscow Baptist Church - the only Protestant Church in Moscow at that time, as far as I know. Used to be a Reformed Church before 1917, by the way.

Billy Graham preached there, I believe, among other American notables.

I was baptized in the summer of '68 in a little country church in Southern Illinois. It is a Southern Baptist church that was established in 1869.

1968 was a significant year in many ways.

Let's see, I was first baptized as a baby in a Lutheran Church, later on when I actually became a believer I was baptized in a Charismatic church by total immersion, then I became a Oneness Pentecostal and was made to be baptized again, because the last time it was into the Trinity and the was heresy. That's three, then when becoming reformed a reformed Baptist wanted me to get baptized again, but I told him three was enough.

I feel like Forrest Gump mentioning the number of times he met the President, "...and then I met the President, again..."

Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. Ecclesiastes

I thought I heard somewhere that Eight is Enough? Oh, wait, that wasn't baptisms!

So what did the reformed Baptist gentleman reply when you said that three was enough?

He kept trying to convince me until we just went to another church.
