| | | OT Books Expanded
I have been listening to a Dispy Teacher who claims Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are all Old Testament books and uses Heb 9:16-18 as proof. I see how it is he can say it (R.C. Sproul asked a class "Who is the last OT Prophet?" Answ: John) but it seems he (the Dispy, not R.C.) stretches to make a point.
Anyone dealt with this argument?

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

In some ways I would say "so what?", it would only matter to a dispensationalist anyway so the argument should be against dispensationalism not how we divide the Bible.

Well, seein' as how Old and New Testament's not to what testament is referring to in said text, I'd have to wonder at the man's ability to "rightly divide the Word of Truth" in this matter.

Anyone dealt with this argument? | I disagree with the "Dispy Teacher" and I suppose, depending upon what he means, with R.C. as well.
The OT prophets were, essentially, covenant preachers - calling the people back to faithfulness to the Mosaic Covenant. Even when they give warnings of doom they are recapitulating in some sense the warnings given in the Law. Of course, there are also Messianic prophecies, but those look forward in time - from the vantage point of the author - to the coming of Christ.
The Gospels were written AFTER the resurrection of Christ to a POST resurrection audience. Given that both their vantage point and audience were post-resurrection, they don't call for a return to faithfulness to the Mosiac Covenant as did the OT Prophets.
The Gospel writers were historians more than prophets. If that makes any sense.
